ANNE HATHAWAY is standing shoulder to shoulder with Jennifer Lawrence.

The Intern actor has taken to Facebook to defend Lawrence after the Joy raised eyebrows for telling off a reporter at Sunday’s Golden Globes, where she took home the award for best actor in a comedy or musical.

Shortly after she won her award, Lawrence made her way backstage to answer questions from reporters. When one journalist posed a question while holding his phone up to take video of the exchange, Lawrence said: “You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro”.

She went on to tell the reporter: “You gotta live your life”.

When the reporter continue by asking her how she prepped for her “Oscar” night, Lawrence replied: “We’re at the Golden Globes. If you’d put your phone down, you’d know that”.

When the video of the exchange made its way online, several Twitter users took issue with Lawrence’s remarks.

Many criticised the Hunger Games star for being “culturally insensitive” and even for behaving “like an asshole” towards the reporter, whose first language didn’t appear to be English.

Five days later, Lawrence’s peer Hathaway came to her defence on Facebook, saying: “It’s become pretty clear that the Jennifer Lawrence “scolding” was taken out of context and that she was dryly joking with a journalist who was indeed using his phone to take photos of her”.

“Let’s not continue the sad but common practice of building people — especially women — up just to viciously tear them down when we perceive them to have misstepped,” Hathaway, 33, wrote.

“Jennifer is a beautiful, talented, wildly successful, popular, FOUR TIME OSCAR NOMINATED young woman. Please let us not punish her for these things,” Hathaway wrote.

She then signed the post, “A J-Law fan” and added the hashtags: #‎supportstrongwomen, #‎imwithher and #‎whycantwegiveloveonemorechance.
