SAFM bringing free Fringe party to the Riverland, featuring Tom Gleeson

The Riverland has struggled under floods for months – so SAFM is bringing Fringe acts up for a free show, featuring one of the nation’s favourite acts including comedian Tom Gleeson.

Some Australia’s hottest festival acts are bringing some cheers and relief to flood-stricken residents of the Riverland later this month, following the aftermath of the worst natural disaster in our states’ history.

Comedian Tom Gleeson will headline the free, one-night concert in Renmark Rovers Football Club on February 20, for a unique Riverland Garden Party.

Radio duo Rebecca Morse and Mark Soderstrom of SAFM have collaborated with the Garden of Unearthly Delights producer Michelle Buxton to bring a taste of Adelaide’s festive season to the Riverland.

“The Riverland is such an iconic part of our state, and it has been heartbreaking to watch what has happened over the past few months,” Soderstrom said

“We know making a trip to Adelaide for The Garden of Unearthly Delights will be difficult for Riverland residents, so we’ve decided to take The Garden to them.”

The Riverland Garden Party will be a mixture of comedy, circus and cabaret. Performers will include Gleeson, Harley Breen, Ivan Aristeguieta, Dave Thornton, Markus Birdman from Best of the Edinburgh Fest, Laser Kiwi and more.

“I’m thrilled that some of our all-time favourite Garden of Unearthly Delights artists have offered their time to be part of the Riverland Garden Party and I hope that this huge night of entertainment gives the Riverland community a small burst of joy on their long road to recovery,” Buxton said.

Renmark-Paringa Mayor Peter Hunter says he was thankful for the support.

“We appreciate the thought, concern and support for Riverland residents from people in Adelaide,” Mr Hunter said. “While the river is down, there’s a lot of clean up to be done, and to see the support given in this fashion is really appreciated.”

The event doors will open at 5pm, with the concert kicking off at 6pm for a 8pm finish.

Free tickets are available through The Garden of Unearthly Delight’s event website.
