A cock-up at an Adelaide Fringe show on Wednesday night has left a performer having to make a hard decision to temporarily stand down.
Puppetry of the Penis creator and performer David “Friendly” Friend hurt his testicle during his “favourite genital origami installation called The Bulldog”, when he sat on the lap of a woman who had a corkscrew in her pocket.
The woman had just returned from a winery tour. Friend said his testicle “turned a deep shade of purple”. Under doctor’s advice, he has to rest for a week. Popular local comedian Michael “Mickey D” Dwyer will take his place.
Dwyer has performed in the show in Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands, but never in his home town.
“There is every chance my old school teacher could see me up there,” he said.
He says his act will not be “full frontal nudity”
“I am still wearing my sneakers, that is what I tell my mum,” Dwyer says.
“I’ll be shining them up.”
Dwyer will still perform in his shows Phatcave, An Evening With Fiona O’Loughlin, Auntie Boo’s Variety Diner and MICKEY D FOR PM (*FOUR).
