ADELAIDE vocalist/songwriter Jo Lawry, accompanied by a backing trio, sang a program of mostly original ballads.

She opened with her own composition Between the Bathtub and the Sea.

From her recent album Taking Pictures, she sang Taking Pictures of Mona Lisa’s Smile, accompanying herself on a new guitar.

Olive Tree, composed by husband Will Vinson with Lawry’s lyrics, featured a soprano sax solo by Vinson.

Flying Free was dedicated to Lawry’s late aunt Tina Lawton, a folk singer who died in a plane crash. The song evoked images of birds, flying high, jungles and a volcano.

Lawry performed extensive vocalese in Irving Berlin’s You Forgot to Remember and Chris Hale supplied a guitar solo.

Vocalese also featured in I Want To Be No-One Else But Me, where Vinson played a sax solo.

In front of the sold-out house, Lawry concluded with her original So Far So Good, celebrating her first year of marriage.
