Adelaide Fringe review 2019: Paul McDermott and Steven Gates
He’s might look more like a castaway Charles Manson these days but it’s clear Paul McDermott hasn’t lost any of his razor sharp wit or talent for musical irreverence.

He’s might look more like a castaway Charles Manson these days but it’s clear Paul McDermott hasn’t lost any of his razor sharp wit or talent for musical irreverence.
The former Doug Anthony All Star is joined on stage by his friend of almost two decades, Tripod’s Steven Gates, and the duo perform a mix of songs ranging from the beautiful to the absurd, yet invariably with a healthy dose of cutting humour to keep the audience on their toes.
Gates is the perfect accompaniment for McDermott, always ready with a jibe at his old mate’s expense, while their vocal harmonies are surprisingly crisp and well-suited to the venue.
Don’t expect riotous laughter but rather two old pros combining their love of music with jocular social commentary and plenty of heart
