FAKING a sore back, wearing a neck brace or saying a car accident where you scratched your number plate has ruled out work forever is enough to score compo for four Aussie comedians.

Straight Outta Compo

Comedy/Stand up *****

Woodville Town Hall. until March 4.

FAKING a sore back, wearing a neck brace or saying a car accident where you scratched your number plate has ruled out work forever is enough to score compo for four Aussie comedians.

Funnymen Rob Shehadie, Tahir Bilgic, George Kapiniaris and Joe Avati perform solo stand-up routines, which are interspersed with skits and videos about how to get rich quick without a hard day’s work at the office.

They also speak about their own cultural traditions (did someone say there were zeppole in the foyer?) and win the audience early with standard issue gags that poke gentle fun at ‘us’ and ‘them’; European children never leave home or the 500:1 ratio of European to Aussie cousins style jokes.

Avati’s content about Italian traditions is 100 per cent accurate – plastic on furniture, leaving the light on as a security measure and a nonna whose catchphrase is ‘det’s ok’ or ‘I stilla lova you’ in broken English.

Underneath all the jokes about race, the men show the differences in culture can be uniting because the audience, of various nationalities, all come together through laughter.
