Adelaide Fringe review 2017: Sammy J — Hero Complex
HERO Complex is proof that the truth really is stranger than fiction, because there is no way Sammy J, or anyone, could devise a plot like this for a one-man show with three central characters, one being The Phantom.

Hero Complex is proof that the truth really is stranger than fiction, because there is no way Sammy J, or anyone, could devise a plot like this for a one-man show with three central characters, one being The Phantom.
Without giving too much away, Hero Complex is a real-life thriller meets coming of age true story. It’s charming and clever — packed with unbelievable coincidences stemming from Sammy J’s obsession with The Phantom and friendship with/hero worship of his school gardener, which set the musical comedian on his life’s path.
With new songs — What Would I Say To Myself When I Was 13 and a lyrical lament of what parenthood does to one’s social life called I’ll See You In 17 Years — Hero Complex is, quite simply, comic genius.
But it’s also comic genius with a lot of heart, so much so, I guarantee you will leave with a crush ... or three.
