More police officers will be put on the beat as thousands are expected to attend the city’s vibrant Adelaide Fringe Festival, which kicks off tonight, Friday February 16.

Police Commander Superintendent Scott Denny said there will be several police units deployed into the city to ensure community safety.

“With any major event comes a higher risk of incidents that require a police response, and we urge anyone attending to be respectful, act responsibly and to look out for your friends and family,” Superintendent Denny said.

“Operation Adelaide Fringe Festival 2024 will see the deployment of foot and bicycle patrols, along with police horses, (and) dogs.

“And Public Transport Safety Branch members to monitor road users, crowds and manage any anti-social behaviour.”

Superintendent Denny also advised of extra safety precautions in place for families with young children.

“Free safety and assistance wristbands are available at Fringe information booths for children and vulnerable people,” he said.

“Before leaving home, talk to your children about what they should do if becoming lost, and encourage them to seek help from a police officer.”

The Fringe grounds will be Declared Public Precinct (DPP) every day from 6pm to 6am which will aid in preserving the family-friendly nature of the festival.

This will grant police the ability to conduct metal detector searches, drug searches and ordering people to leave the vicinity.

Party goers are also reminded to act responsibly by leaving their car secured and carrying personal belongings on themselves.

To keep SA roads safe, festival attendees should plan their journey and keep an eye out for pedestrians.

Drivers are reminded of extended road closures on Rundle Street and East Terrace intersection during peak periods along with road restrictions around Victoria Square.
