The Picture of Dorian Gray showing at Her Majesty’s Theatre will go ahead on Thursday night, after hundreds of theatregoers were left stranded after Wednesday’s show was cancelled.
At first, the show was delayed and staff told patrons there were technical difficulties.
It has been lauded as one of the centrepieces of the Adelaide Festival and received rave reviews.
Technicians were at the site on Thursday morning working to fix the problem in the hope the performance would be able to go ahead for its scheduled show at 8pm Thursday.
An Adelaide Festival spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the show will continue after the problems were remedied.
A stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s novel by the same title, the show was dubbed “sheer brilliance” with its blend of onstage performances and big screen projections by an Advertiser reviewer.
The season opening for The Picture of Dorian Gray was last Sunday, and it is set to run each night until this coming Sunday.
An Adelaide Festival spokeswoman said on Wednesday night the problem was caused by the automated fly system which controls the screens that move throughout the show.
The show had been scheduled to start at 8pm and patrons were kept outside while technicians tried to fix the issue, but the performance was then cancelled at 8.30pm.
Tickets for Wednesday’s performance will be refunded or rebooked for another performance, with more tickets available now that restrictions have lifted and venue capacity is back to 100 per cent.
Earlier, ticket holders for singer Kate Ceberano’s concert at outdoor venue The Summerhouse were advised that it had been moved indoors to the Lion Arts Centre because of heavy rain.
However, the indoor venue did not have seating and many patrons reportedly left unhappy.
