Dancing is back on the agenda in SA and Freo indie pop outfit San Cisco cashed in on the COVID-19 rule change at Adelaide Festival’s latest vibe-setting venue, The Summerhouse.
In fact, it felt like the five-piece were more excited to be by the Torrens than the eager Friday night crowd.
Lead singer Jordie Davison said it was the first time they’d played live outside of their home state of Western Australia in a year.
“It’s so surreal to be out of WA,” Scarlett Stevens agrees from behind the drum kit.
“We’re treating it like a mini holiday.” Opening with the strongest number (Skin) from latest record, 2020’s Between You And Me, the mostly 20-something crowd rises to its feet and stays there for the duration.
While the set list favours the new LP (On The Line, Messages, When I Dream and a superb rendition of Flaws), there are reminders the band are approaching relative veteran status: breakthrough hit “about stalking” Awkward is turning the big 1-0 this year.
Set for 17 days of live music, San Cisco have set the bar early for all acts set to follow at The Summerhouse.
