Activist Clementine Ford has used Adelaide Writers’ Week to platform the “fight for Palestinian freedom” and urge anyone silent on the plight of women and children to “reassess your values”.
Jewish leaders had called for Ford to be banned from the festival after she disseminated a link to the details of 600 Jewish artists and creatives, resulting in some receiving death threats.
She took to the stage for her Thursday afternoon session wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh scarf as a mark of solidarity.
“I’ve been very active in the fight for Palestinian freedom,” she said.
“I can’t do any of these events without acknowledging that we are watching something devastating occur and particularly given that tomorrow is International Women’s Day and I think there’s probably going to be a lot of very obvious silence around that.”
Ford, who did not address the doxxing controversy during her Q and A with author Susan Johnson, called the crowd to action.
“If you can’t fight at least for Palestinian women and children then I think you need to reassess your values,” she said.
“I hope that everyone will join me in at least fighting for Palestinian kids.”
