Adelaide circus troupe Gravity & Other Myths has taken their new show to the next level – with a little help from some talented friends.
The award-winning physical theatre company teamed up with Indigenous Australian dance sensations Djuki Mala for a special Adelaide Festival opening night performance at Adelaide Oval’s Village Green.
The new show, MACRO, sold out, but was live streamed on The Advertiser website on Saturday, March 5.
Ahead of the event, GOM director Darcy Grant said they were still “pinching themselves” ahead of the one-night only performance, which will also showcase Adelaide youth vocal ensemble Aurora and Scottish contemporary folk artists Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle), Kathleen MacInnes (vocals) and Bridghe Chaimbeul (pipes).
“Everyone is just twitching with excitement, it’s amazing,” said Grant.
“We love to push physical limits and we’re really lucky that the collaborating artists on this project, particularly Djuki Mala, are also incredible limit pushers of their own.
“The results are incredible. We’re managing to physically collaborate at a level that I didn’t think was possible.”
Co-commissioned by the Edinburgh International Festival, the show will feature about 75 performers in total along with a large-scale projection and lighting display.
“It’s huge. We’ve been designing this site for the last 6 months. I think it’s going to be something that people haven’t encountered before when it comes to an outdoor spectacle,” said Grant.
“It’s been a monumental challenge for us. But I think we really relish it.”
MACRO, at Adelaide Oval’s Village Green, will be live streamed here on The Advertiser website on Saturday, 8pm.
