It’s the chance of a lifetime – to join one of the world’s most popular bands on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans and belt out a fan favourite on the drums.
For Andrew Clark it was a dream come true as he was summoned on to stage to join The Killers for the their song For Reasons Unknown.
The 32-year-old held up a sign asking “Can I play the drums in For Reasons Unknown?” during The Killers performance at Day on the Green on Saturday night.
He had good reason to believe they might pull him out of the crowd as the same thing happened to another Adelaide drummer four years ago when The Killers played the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
“So he held up a sign asking to play on For Reasons Unknown and got to play with them and I wanted that to be me so I made a sign and held it up as well,” Andrew said.
“I could see lead singer Brandon (Flowers) looking over every now and then.
“Then he pointed me out and got me on stage. It was such a blur, I can’t remember a lot of it to be honest.”
On stage Andrew cast his eye out over the thousands of people watching the band and said he could not see where the crowd ended.
Flowers leant over and asked Andrew his name and where he was from and, most importantly, if he knew all the stops and pauses in the song.
Then Andrew was ushered up to the kit by drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr.
“It’s a pretty impressive set up and a different configuration to what I’ve got at home, so it took a bit of getting used to,” he said.
“Ronnie and Brandon checked to make sure I was all right through the performance.”
At the end of the performance Andrew took a selfie with the superstar, showing the thousands of people in the crowd behind them.
Asked if the Killers are his favourite band, Andrew said the U2 were probably his favourite, but The Killers were a close second.
“I’ll be going again to see them at the VALO Adelaide 500 but won’t take the sign this time,” he said.
“It was all a bit of a blur and I want to enjoy watching them this time.”
