Legendary rock band The Killers has been announced as the headline act for the revamped VALO Adelaide 500.
Premier Peter Malinauskas revealed the jam-packed concert lineup on Tuesday, with Aussie acts Lime Cordiale, The Presets, Baker Boy and SA stars Teenage Joans to front Friday night’s show.
Jimmy Barnes and Icehouse will fill out Saturday night, alongside a Noiseworks reunion.
The Killers will return to Australia for the first time since their 2018 arena tour for Sunday’s show, with special guests yet to be announced.
Joining Mr Malinauskas was the Adelaide 500’s new No.1 ticket holder, young Jake Burton, who approached the premier in February and told of his excitement for the event.
“(Jake) came up to me after the presentation (in February) and said the best birthday present would be to attend the Adelaide 500,” Mr Malinauskas said.
“That sense of passion and exuberance where the whole bloody city is alive ... I want to make sure the next generation of South Australians get to experience the same thing, and that’s what Jake was hoping for.
“This event is more than just motorsport, it’s the whole package around it.”
General admission ticket sales will open on Tuesday, which coincides with the official launch of the event in Victoria Square, where official naming-rights sponsor was announced as SA advanced manufacturer VALO.
The cheapest option – a Thursday adult general admission pass – will cost $29, compared with the $45 cost of the same ticket when the race was last held in 2020. Thursday concession passes will be $26.
Friday general admission tickets will cost $59 for adults or $53 concession, while Saturday or Sunday race day tickets are $89 for adults and $79 concession.
A weekend pass for adults will cost $149 and four-day pass $159, in a pricing scheme reflective of the 2012 event.
Children 12 and under will be admitted free throughout the whole of the event.
In 2020, Sunday tickets cost $100, and four-day passes began at $200.
Grandstand tickets will open for pre-sale in coming days, which will give previous ticket holders the opportunity to reclaim their old seating location. Following that, grandstand tickets will be made available to the general public.
Prices for a four-day pass to the Barry Sheene Pit Straight Grandstand will range from $229-$299 for adults and $205-$269 for concession.
Tickets for the December 1-4 race will be available via the Ticketek website. Premier Peter Malinauskas said the returned Adelaide 500 was set to be bigger and better than ever.
“There is no doubt rising cost of living is a concern for most people, which is why we have decided to wind back ticket prices by a decade,” he said.
“By attracting as many people as possible to the Adelaide 500, we will increase the economic benefit to the city.”
Adelaide 500 chief executive Mark Warren said the organisation had worked hard to craft a ticketing package that was as affordable as possible.
“This year’s Adelaide 500 is going to be something special and cutting ticket prices means even more people will be able to see it,” he said.
“Importantly, we’re giving Adelaide 500 fans the opportunity to purchase their old seats, so they can experience the race just as they did before it was axed in 2020.”
