Thank an SA schoolteacher with the Education Department’s special online site

With many schools asking parents to avoid coming on-site, it’s harder to give teachers the traditional thankyou present – now you can do it another way.

Thank a teacher

Families are being invited to say thank you to school teachers after the tough year 2020 has been.

Messages can be sent via an online site created by the Education Department.

Select messages will be published online as well as going directly to the teacher.

Gawler and District College principal Angie Michael said teacher Jenna Cale was one of her staff who deserved special praise for their year’s work.

“She really upholds the school’s values of respect, generosity and excellence,” Ms Michael said.

“She does that with her students, her peers, the school families and the wider community.

“She’s been incredible during this stressful time”

Ms Michael said usually parents might say thanks to a teacher face-to-face at the end of the year.

“But we haven’t had much face-to-face interaction lately,” she said.

Year 8 student Grace said Ms Cale had opened lots of pathways for her.

“I love the creativity, especially doing digital,” she said. “When I started I didn’t know anything.”

Year 7 student Noah thanked Ms Cale for being a real inspiration.

The campaign, ThankED, will also take messages for leaders, allied health and support staff in public schools.

“Everyone working in education plays a critical role in supporting the future of our children and young people,” Education Minister John Gardner said.

“Our teachers, educators and support staff have been true community leaders during this unprecedented time.

“South Australian students have benefited from the least disruption to their learning this year of any students in Australia, and this in no small part due to the outstanding work of our educators across the state.”

Messages can be sent via the website education.sa.gov.au/ThankED
