An elite private girls school in the eastern suburbs was the top performing South Australian school in Year 9 NAPLAN tests over a five-year period.
And private schools made up two-thirds of the state’s top 100 overall.
Wilderness School, which charged $26,214 in Year 12 fees this year, topped SA and ranked 46th in Australia on aggregate scores across all test areas from 2014-18.
The next best was sought-after public school Glenunga International High, which is set for a $29 million upgrade to become a megaschool for 2200 students when Year 7s are introduced in 2022. Glenunga was 62nd in Australia.
Only two other SA schools made the national top 100 – St Peter’s Girls was 95th, while Pembroke snuck in at 99th.
St Peter’s College, Meridian School, Walford, St Ignatius’ College, Seymour and St Dominic’s Priory were next in line.
That means five private girls schools (four of them high-fee independent schools) were in the state’s top 10.
