Across the nation, more than 85 new schools are planned for rapidly growing communities. See what’s coming in your area, and when.

More than 85 new schools are set to spring up across the government, independent and Catholic sectors to meet demand in rapidly growing areas around the nation.

There are at least 30 schools opening in the next four years in NSW alone. Together with Victoria, the two most populous states accounted for more than half the country’s announced new school builds.

Kolbe Catholic College will welcome year 7 students to its brand new eight-hectare Mickleham campus in northern Melbourne at the beginning of next year.

The coeducational secondary school will feature 23 learning spaces, including 12 classrooms and four specialist classrooms for food technology and manual arts.

It will also open an performing arts and visual centre containing ceramics, a library and science facilities.

Sandra Alshabani, the mother to excited future Kolbe student Arvy Al-Shana, said the family can’t wait for Arvy to start secondary school at the Mickleham campus.

“The new school is near my brother’s house and every time we drive past Arvy says, ‘Mum, I’m so excited to see the school and start there next year’,” she said.

After hearing great reports from family members who had previously graduated from the college’s Greenvale campus, the family decided that Kolbe was the right choice for Arvy.

Principal Nick Scully said he’s excited to anticipate the life and energy that students will bring to the space.

“There’s something truly special about being part of the very first group of students to walk through the gates of a brand-new school,” he said.

“At our Mickleham campus, we’re not just opening buildings, we’re building a community, and we can’t wait to welcome our year 7 students as the foundation of something exciting.”

Victoria

Umarkoo Primary School

Location: Wollert, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Opening its gates at the beginning of the 2026 school year, Umarkoo Primary School will have places for up to 525 students from prep to year six.

Leanne Tingwell will take the helm as principal. The school will open with an administration and library building with spaces for art, science and food technology, a sports field, and much more.

Biyala Primary School

Location: Armstrong Creek, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Up to 650 students will be welcomed into the new Biyala Primary School at Armstrong Creek in term one next year.

With 24 years of experience, Shannon Cormack will lead the exciting new school as principal. Ms Cormack wants students to feel “valued and supported to reach their potential”.

Muyan Primary School

Location: Wallan, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Muyan – a Wurundjeri Woi wurrung word meaning silver wattle – Primary School will herald in 525 spaces for prep to year six students in term one, 2026.

The new school in Wallan will help to meet increasing enrolment demand from a growing local community.

Murrum Primary School

Location: Weir Views, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Principal of the new Weir Views school, Samantha Fleming, is excited to drive a positive change, promoting inclusivity and compassion.

The Murrum Primary School, set to open at the beginning of 2026, will have 715 places for students, including 65 places for students with disabilities.

Mindalk Primary School

Location: Truganina, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Mindalk Primary School will open day one of term one next year with places for 575 new students, and 50 students with disabilities.

The new school at Truganina will be a supported inclusion school, which means it will have some extra accessibility features to help teach and support more students with disabilities.

Ngurraga School

Location: Point Cook, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Yurran P-9 College

Location: Point Cook, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Ngurraga School, which will open in 2026, will initially share its site with the Yurran P-9 College, though the schools will operate independently. Yurran P-9 College is expected to have construction completed in term three 2027.

Up to 168 students will have places at the Ngurraga School, while when completed the Yurran P-9 College will be able to enrol up to 1250 students – 650 primary and 600 secondary.

Wiyal Primary School

Location: Fraser Rise, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Work for the new Wiyal Primary School started at the back end of 2024, and while its still under construction it will have places for up to 525 students at the beginning of the 2026 school year.

Excited to work with the community, Paris Spencer has been appointed the principal to establish the new school.

Gamadji Primary School

Location: Craigieburn, VIC

Opening date: 2026

An addition to the growing Craigieburn community, the Gamadji Primary School will open to 650 students in 2026.

Maria Marchionna has been appointed the principal of the new school, having previously worked as principal at the Moomba Park Primary School in Fawkner.

Marra School

Location: Kalkallo, VIC

Opening date: 2026

The new Marra School will provide an inclusive environment for up to 148 specialist students when it opens in 2026.

The school, with principal Lindsey Delooze, will provide specific educational programs for students with mild to profound intellectual disability.

Ngayuk College

Location: Kalkallo, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Ngayuk College at Kalkallo will have a progressive opening, welcoming year seven students during its first year of operation in 2026, adding an additional year level each year.

When completed, the new secondary school will have places for up to 800 students.

Kerribana Primary School

Location: Leneva, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Work on a new primary school at Leneva first started nearly a decade ago in the middle of 2018.

The new Kerribana Primary School is now set to open at the beginning of term one in 2026, with places for up to 525 students from prep to year six, including 50 students with disabilities.

Yirrama Primary School

Location: Chaelemont, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Enrolments are open for the new Yirrama Primary School at Chaelemont, which will open with 525 places at the beginning of next year.

Joel Riddle, who has previously worked as the first principal of Lollypop Creek Primary School in Werribee, will take on the inaugural principal position.

Narrarrang Primary School

Location: Port Melbourne, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Up to 650 places for students between prep and year six will be available when the Narrarrang Primary School opens at Port Melbourne in term one next year.

In addition to the new school, a new kindergarten will open on the site in 2027.

Kolorer College

Location: Cobblebank, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Kolorer College will open at the beginning of 2026, with a double-storey learning space which include a library and administration, and a three storey specialist learning building with areas for tech, science, and the arts.

A community hub and sports field is expected to be completed by term two of 2026, made available for up to 865 students.

Birranga College

Location: Clyde North, VIC

Opening date: 2026

While only opening for year seven students to begin with, Birranga College at Clyde North will add an additional year level each year, with places for up to 550 students when completed.

Nick Hamer-Smith has been appointed the new school’s principal with 24 years of experience.

Balambalam Primary School

Location: Clyde North, VIC

Opening date: 2026

The new Balambalam Primary School will open in term one of 2026, with Danielle Heatley at the helm as principal.

The new school in Clyde North will have places for up to 715 students from prep to year six, including 65 students with disabilities.

Kala Primary School

Location: Cranbourne North, VIC

Opening date: 2026

With places for up to 525 students, the Kala Primary School – opening at the beginning of next year – will help local students get high-quality education closer to home.

Enrolments for the new school are open, with Tracy Knight appointed the new principal.

Kulap Primary School

Location: Clyde, VIC

Opening date: 2026

The new primary school opening at Clyde, has been named Kulap, a Bunurong Boonwurrung language word meaning emu.

It will open at the start of the schooling year in 2026, with places for up to 525 students.

Officer Brunt Road Specialist School

Location: VIC

Opening date: 2027

Still in the very early stages of development, planning has started this year on the new Officer Brunt Road Specialist School.

Once completed in 2027, there will be places for up to 144 students. The principal is yet to be appointed.

Aintree North Primary School

Location: VIC

Opening date: 2027

Aintree North Primary School was announced in 2025, with expectations to have it open and ready for students at the beginning of 2027.

The new primary school will create places for up to 650 students, assisting with ongoing demands in the local community.

St Marianne Cope Catholic Primary School

Location: Mt Atkinson (Truganina), VIC

Openingdate: 2026

Jacqueline Byrne will lead the new St Marianne Cope Catholic Primary School as the founding principal when it opens at the beginning of next year.

Opening in its first stage, the new school will consist of two buildings, one being a kindergarten and the second with 13 general learning spaces and areas for specialist subjects.

Kolbe Catholic College 7-12

Location: Mickleham, VIC

Opening date: 2026

The new Kolbe Catholic College campus at Mickleham is already at capacity for enrolments, and it’s still yet to open its doors.

Opening next year, the new school will expand Kolbe’s offerings to students from year seven to 12, with enrolments for the 2027 school year already open.

St Padre de Pio Primary School

Location: Thornhill Park, VIC

Opening date: 2026

Work is well underway to open the new St Padre de Pio Primary School at Thornhill Park next year, with enrolment interviews underway to fill capacity in the 2026 school year.

The Catholic school’s new principal, Daniel Bermingham welcomed new families with open arms and hearts to be a part of a growing learning community.

New Catholic primary school

Location: Tarneit, VIC

Opening date: 2027

Currently in its design phase, work on a new Catholic primary school – yet to be named – at Tarneit first started at the end of last year.

With assistance from the Victorian School Building Authority, the new campus is expected to be finished at the end of 2026.

MacKillop Catholic Regional College K-12

Location: Wyndham Vale, VIC

Opening date: (Partial 2027) 2028

Hoping to welcome kindergarteners to the new MacKillop Catholic Regional College by 2027, the school will progressively enrol for year levels seven through to 12 between 2028 and 2033.

When fully open, the college’s capacity for students across its two current schools, and the new Wyndham Vale campus, to more than 3000 students.

Mary Glowrey Catholic Primary School

Location: Mt Duneed, VIC

Opening date: Unknown

The new Mary Glowrey Catholic Primary School, which first started its planning works last year, is opening in 2027.

While the school is going through the design phase, it is expected to be completed sometime in the coming years.

New South Wales

Box Hill Public School

Location: Box Hill, NSW

Opening date: (Partial opening 2025) 2026

Box Hill Public School partially opened in term one this year, providing places for students in kindergarten through to year two.

It’s expected the rest of the school will be completed and ready to open in 2026, catering for up to 1000 students in total.

Green Square Public School

Location: Zealand, NSW

Opening date: (Partial opening 2025) 2026-2027

Green Square Public School opened for students in kindergarten through to year two this year, and will progressively expand to cater to students in other years through until 2027.

By next year, the school will have places for students up to year four, while in 2027 it will have spaces for up to year six.

Box Hill High School

Location: Box Hill, NSW

Opening date: 2026

With 50 classrooms, the new Box Hill High School will cater for up to 1000 students when it opens next year.

The new school will also include seven support classrooms, a hospitality kitchen, and sports fields and courts.

Albury Thurgoona Primary/Preschool

Location: Albury, NSW

Opening date: 2027

A new primary school and preschool opening at Albury in 2027 will have 18 modern classrooms with shared common areas and multipurpose spaces for its students.

The Albury Thurgoona Primary/Preschool will have capacity for up to 60 preschool children per day.

Bungendore High School

Location: Bungendore, NSW

Opening date: 2027

The new permanent Bungendore High School will be built and ready to open at the beginning of term one in 2027.

While there is a temporary site, which will be expanded ahead of the 2026 school year, the new permanent school will include modernised, and support learning classrooms to assist in the growing community getting access to world class public education.

Googong High School

Location: Googong, NSW

Opening date: 2027

Design work for the new Googong High School has now been completed as the school prepares for its 2027 open date.

With the expectation to be ready for students on day one of the 2027 schooling year, the next step is to complete the building tender process and award the construction contract.

Wilton High School

Location: Wilton, NSW

Opening date: 2027

Stage one of the new Wilton High School will be completed and ready to welcome up to 187 students in 2027.

Once the second stage of the project has been completed, the new school will have capacity for up to 1000 students.

Wilton Primary/Preschool

Location: Wilton, NSW

Opening date: 2027

Twenty-four new classrooms will open at the new public primary and preschool at Wilton at the beginning of the school year in 2027.

Construction of the new school is expected to start in late 2025, and once complete.

Gledswood Hills High School

Location: Gledswood Hills, NSW

Opening date: 2027

Set to accommodate up to 2,000 students, Gledswood Hills’ new high school will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including modern learning spaces, a library, a hall, and sports fields.

This development aims to meet the increasing demand for quality education in the region.

Jordan Springs High School

Location: Jordan Springs, NSW

Opening date: 2027

The new high school in Jordan Springs is being constructed to accommodate up to 1,500 students.

It will feature contemporary classrooms, specialised STEM areas, and spaces for arts and sports, providing a dynamic and inclusive educational environment.

Gables Primary/Preschool

Location: Gables, NSW

Opening date: 2027

The new Gables Primary/Preschool is expected to open on day one of term one in 2027, with places for approximately 1000 students.

The next steps for the project include finalising detailed designs, completing excavation works and construction foundations.

Edmondson Park High School

Location: Edmondson Park, NSW

Opening date: 2027

Work for the new Edmondson Park High School commenced in late 2024, and it is expected to open ready for students at the beginning of the school year in 2027.

The new school will support the growing population in the South-West Sydney area.

Tallawong High School

Location: Tallawong, NSW

Opening date: 2027

Tallawong High School is expected to open in 2027, though it is still in the early stages of planning.

Planning determination is expected this year, and once approved, and a construction tender is awarded, work will begin on a more detailed design and construction timeline.

Midtown Macquarie Park Primary School

Location: Macquarie Park, NSW

Opening date: 2027

A new primary school at Macquarie Park is expected to open in early 2027, catering for up to 750 students from kindergarten through to year six.

Early construction work for the school is expected to commence this year, including digging for a substructure.

Calderwood Primary School

Location: Calderwood, NSW

Opening date: 2028

The new Calderwood Primary School is in its early design stages, with concepts yet to be finalised ahead of a planning pathway lodgement.

It is expected to open at the beginning of 2028.

Grantham Farm Primary/Public Preschool

Location: Grantham Farm, NSW

Opening date: 2028

Opening in term one 2028, the Grantham Farm Primary/Public Preschool will have places for at least 500 students on day one.

The new school will cater to the suburb’s increasing student population, with 24 modern classrooms, three support learning rooms, a multipurpose hall, a covered outdoor learning area, and out of school hours care facilities.

Huntlee Primary and High School

Location: Huntlee, NSW

Opening date: 2028

A new primary school and high school at Huntlee will open at the beginning of 2028, and it is currently in its design stage.

Emerald Hills Primary/Preschool

Location: Emerald Hills, NSW

Opening date: 2028

An architect has been appointed to begin design work for a new primary and preschool at Emerald Hills.

The school will have capacity for at least 550 students when it opens in 2028.

West Dapto Primary School

Location: Dapto, NSW

Opening date: 2029

Up to 600 students will be able to enrol in the new West Dapto Primary School ahead of its 2029 opening.

Further planning and design work for the project is yet to commence.

Pottsville High School

Location: Pottsville, NSW

Opening date: Unknown

The new Pottsville High School has not been given an opening date, or site, at this stage of planning.

Specialists are being engaged by the NSW government to conduct due diligence on potential sites.

Medowie High School

Location: Medowie, NSW

Opening date: Unknown

The Medowie high school is being developed to serve up to 1,000 students, featuring state-of-the-art classrooms, specialised STEM areas, and spaces for arts and sports.

This development is part of a broader effort to enhance educational infrastructure in the region.

Worrigee Primary/Preschool

Location: Worrigee, NSW

Opening date: Unknown

Works are currently underway on the acquisition of land at Worrigee for a new public primary and preschool.

The opening date for the new school is still undetermined, but there is ongoing assessment and engagement regarding the project.

Leppington High School

Catering to up to 2,000 students, the new high school for Leppington and Denhams Court will offer modern classrooms, specialised learning areas, and facilities for arts and sports.

Rydalmere Education Campus

A new public education campus at Rydalmere will cater for students from kindergarten through to year 12.

Melrose Park High School

Rhodes East Primary School

Rhodes East Primary School is in the early stages of planning, but is being developed to meet student and community needs.

Sydney Olympic Park Primary/Preschool

To accommodate for future growth in the Sydney Olympic Park area a new primary and preschool is being planned for the future.

While it’s yet to have an opening date, work is being undertaken to transfer the ownership of the future site to the NSW education department.

St Leonards Primary School

Opening date: Unknown

A new primary school is on the horizon at St Leonards with fit for purpose learning spaces and core facilities to meet future enrolment growth.

The school is in the early stages of planning and currently has no completion date publicly available.

Macquarie Park Education Campus

Location: Macquarie Park, NSW

Opening date: Unknown

A new education campus is currently in the design phase to be built at Macquarie Park.

The campus will include a new primary school, as well as an integrated public preschool and a new high school, though there is no completion date as of yet.

South Australia

Xavier College Riverlea Park

The new Xavier College campus at Riverlea Park will cater to growing communities north of Adelaide, with the school set to open for reception to year six students in 2027.

The school will progressively expand to include spaces for students up to year 12 in the future.

Unnamed public secondary school

Location: Eyre, SA

Opening date: 2028

A new unnamed public secondary school is due for completion in Eyre in 2028.

The $155.3m school will have a capacity for up to 1300 students to support the growing population of the area.

St Francis de Sales College

Location: Strathalbyn, SA

Opening date: 2029

St Francis de Sales College will be expanding with a new Strathalbyn campus, expected to open in 2029.

The new school will cater for students in reception through to year six, with the potential to expand up to year nine students depending on enrolment demand.

Unnamed public primary school

Location: Adelaide’s north, SA

Opening date: Unknown

A new public school will create 400 places for reception to year six students, as well as a 60-place preschool, in Adelaide’s north.

A site and completion date for the new school is yet to be determined, but the school will cost $70m.

Queensland

St Bonaventure’s College

Location: Flagstone, QLD

Openingdate: 2026

Opening in 2026, St Bonaventure’s College at Flagstone will, once all stages are completed, have capacity for more than 1800 students.

Anthony Elmore, who is the current principal at St Michael’s College Merrimac, will transfer across to St Bonaventure’s and lead the school in its opening next year.

Holmview (Bahrs Scrub) Primary School

Location: Holmview, QLD

Opening date: 2027

A new state school will open at Holmview in 2027, though it was originally planned for a term one 2026 opening date.

The delay has been to address issues raised during the planning phase, though the new school will increase local student capacity and provide enrolment relief to surrounding schools.

Logan Reserve Secondary School

Location: Logan Reserve, QLD

Opening date: 2027

Logan Reserve Special School (P-12)

Planning is currently underway to deliver a new secondary school and special school for students in prep through to year 12 at Logan Reserve.

Further information on the developments are currently limited.

Caloundra South Primary School

Location: Caloundra, QLD

Opening date: 2028

The new Caloundra South Primary School was originally planned to open this year, but enrolment demand and residential growth had not progressed as fast as originally forecast, forcing delays in the development.

The new school is now planned to open in 2028.

Ripley Valley Primary School

Location: Ripley, QLD

Opening date: 2028

Ripley Valley’s new primary school is planned to open in 2028, though it was first planned to open at the beginning of this year.

With demand not as high as first planned, the school was pushed back until demands were higher.

Gracemere Secondary School

Location: Gracemere, QLD

Opening date: 2028+

A new high school is planned for Gracemere with funding allocated to begin early site works, produce detailed costings and deliver a master plan.

The first stage of construction will deliver infrastructure for years seven and eight, with construction due to commence mid next year.

Greater Flagstone Primary School

Location: QLD

Opening date: 2028+

A new Greater Flagstone Primary School was originally planned to open in term one of 2025 year, but enrolment demand and residential growth had not progressed as fast as originally forecast, delaying the school’s development.

Preparations for the delivery are currently underway, with the school’s opening planned between 2028 and 2029 dependent on student enrolment growth.

Springfield Secondary School

Location: Springfield, QLD

Opening date: 2028+

A new secondary school campus at Springfield was planned to open in 2024 but a stabilised enrolment demand meant the school wasn’t required as soon as first expected.

The school opening is now being planned for between 2029 and 2030.

Caboolture West Primary School

Location: Caboolture, QLD

Opening date: 2028+

A new primary school at Caboolture West is planned to open between 2028 and 2030, depending on student enrolment growth.

The school was first planned to open in 2025 but demand had not progressed to the required amount.

Brisbane Inner West Primary School

Location: Brisbane, QLD

Opening date: 2028+

A new state school is currently being planned for Brisbane’s inner west for students in prep through to year six.

The location is yet to be determined, as is when the school will be built.

Burpengary East State School

Location: Burpengary East, QLD

Opening date: 2028+

Greater Flagstone Secondary School

Location: QLD

Opening date: 2028+

Springfield/Redbank Special School

Location: QLD

Opening date: 2028+

The Queensland Education Department is currently planning for the delivery of schools at Burpengary East, Greater Flagstone and Springfield/Redbank with expectations to open in 2028 and beyond.

No investment decision has been made on the schools as of yet, and there is currently no further information.

Australian Capital Territory

Strathnairn ECEC and Primary School

Location: Strathnairn, ACT

Opening date: (Partial 2026) 2027

A new school at Strathnairn will have 130 early childhood education places, as well as 780 places for students up to year six.

The school will open from preschool to year two at the start of 2026, and it is expected that students from all year levels will be able to attend in 2027.

Second Gungahlin College

Location: Nicholls, ACT

Opening date: By 2030

Currently in the planning and design stage, the second Gungahlin college will have an initial capacity for 800 students, with room to expand to 1100 students to meet enrolment growth.

It is expected to be completed by 2030.

Whitlam Primary School

Location: Whitlam, ACT

Opening date: 2027

The new Whitlam Primary School will be open and ready to cater to its preschool to year six students at the beginning of 2027.

With places for up to 780 students, the school will be built in a central location within the suburb, strategically positioned to offer easy access for students and families.

Molonglo Valley College

Location: Molonglo Valley, ACT

Opening date: Unknown

The new Molonglo Valley College, while yet to have a completion date, is currently going through planning and design phases.

Western Australia

Sunrise Primary School

Location: Wellard, WA

Opening date: 2026

The new Sunrise Primary School will open at Wellard in 2026, catering for students from kindergarten through to year six.

David Paine will be the new school’s principal, wanting to build strong partnerships with families, communities and agencies to support every child.

Wungong (Precinct F) Primary School

Location: Wungong, WA

Opening date: 2026

The new Wugong Primary School is set to open its doors to the local community in February 2026.

With airconditioned classrooms, multiple playgrounds and green space, the new school aims to encourage a love of learning.

Alkimos North East Primary School

Location: Alkimos, WA

Opening date: 2027

Banksia Grove West Primary School

Location: Banksia Grove, WA

Opening date: 2027

Piara Waters West Primary School

Location: Piara Waters, WA

Opening date: 2027

New primary schools at Alkimos, Banksia Grove and Piara Waters were announced, all expected to open at the beginning of 2027.

All areas of the three schools have received significant population growth in recent years, particularly families with young children.

East Perth Primary School

Location: Perth, WA

Opening date: 2029

East Perth Primary School is set to open in 2029 with a capacity for 600 students.

The school will cater to the increasing needs and population of Perth’s inner city.

Northern Territory

Groote Eylandt Bickerton Island Primary College Aboriginal Corporation

Location: Bickerton Island

Opening date: 2026

– boarding college for students in year 3 to 6. (Registration approved and due to open in 2026, once building works have been completed).

Homeland Schools Company – three schools
Locations: Gamardi, Buluh Kadura and Gochan Jiny Jirra.

Opening date: TBC

Three new Indigenous Homeland Schools are planned, and registration applications have been submitted.
