PAC cricket coach Shannon Tubb’s position under review amid allegations he sent sexually explicit messages in his former role

SACA has launched an investigation into PAC First XI cricket coach Shannon Tubb amid allegations he sent lewd texts to the same woman as his brother-in-law, Tim Paine.

Cricket Australia: Tim Paine should have been stripped of Test captaincy years ago

Shannon Tubb’s position as Prince Alfred College’s First XI cricket coach is under review amid allegations he sent lewd messages to the same woman as his brother-in-law – Australia’s former Test captain Tim Paine.

PAC headmaster Bradley Fenner told The Advertiser he was not aware of the allegations Mr Tubb sent X-rated messages including an “unwelcoming and unsolicited dick pic” to a female employee at Cricket Tasmania until Sunday afternoon.

The SA Cricket Association has also launched its own investigation into Mr Tubb’s employment.

“Now we will review Shannon’s position with us, we’ll take everything into account but we also won’t be hasty … we want to make a very considered decision because it’s a very important one for us,” Mr Fenner said.

“Shannon has been with us for over two years now as coach of our First XI. We’ve never had any concerns over that time about his conduct, or his performance in the role for that matter.”

Mr Tubb has declined to comment. The alleged conduct occurred before he moved to SA and was employed by SACA and PAC.

A letter was circulated to PAC parents and staff on Monday advising of the allegations.

“He was appointed after appropriate reference checks and having received the required police clearances to work with young people,” Mr Fenner wrote.

“We have had no concerns about Shannon’s conduct and performance during his time with us.

“In the light of this news, we are reviewing Shannon’s position with us and will advise the school community about this in due course.

“As cricket has ended for this term, there is no coaching taking place at present.”

Mr Fenner said Mr Tubb was “well recommended” for the position at the college which he started in 2019 after working with the South Australian Cricket Association for a year.

He was “surprised and disappointed” to hear of the allegations.

Mr Tubb left his coaching position at Cricket Tasmania following a probe into his actions in mid-2018, at the same time Tim Paine’s actions were under review by Cricket Australia.

When both alleged exchanges occurred, the woman was employed in a junior position at Cricket Tasmania.

SACA said it was unaware of any allegations relating to Tubb until they surfaced in the media on Sunday.

In a statement, SACA said that Mr Tubb - who is currently the head coach for the association’s Academy Pathways Program - was originally hired in 2018 as a talent coordinator.

SACA said in a statement that at the time of his hiring, it was not aware of “the historical and concerning allegations relating to Shannon Tubb during the time of his employment with Cricket Tasmania”.

“Since Mr Tubb commenced employment with SACA, there have been no concerns raised directly or indirectly with the organisation in relation to his conduct,” the statement read.

“However, as SACA takes all matters relating to the conduct of our people very seriously, we are engaging with Cricket Tasmania and other parties as part of our own investigations into the matter before making any further comment.”

In documents seen by News Corp Australia, the woman – who has since left Cricket Tasmania – claimed Mr Tubb sexually harassed her over a period of several months.

It was claimed Mr Tubb allegedly wrote messages to the woman, including: “I want to put my c--- in between your t---.”

He also allegedly wrote: “You made me hard today, I know you noticed.” Another message said: “Send me something, I want to play with myself.”

“F--- your t--- look massive today,” it was claimed Mr Tubb also wrote in a message posted on Snapchat.

And he allegedly encouraged the female employee to use Snapchat, a phone application that was “used by many Cricket Tasmania employees”.

“Get on snap ya Mole,” he allegedly wrote.

The woman, whom The Advertiser has chosen not to name, quit her role in late 2017 amid unrelated allegations against her that led to criminal charges which are still before the courts.

Paine stepped down as Test captain for the Australian team on Friday with a tearful apology, after it was alleged he too sent X-rated messages and an unsolicited dick pic to the woman.

Cricket Australia said Paine would continue to be available for selection in the Test team this summer.

A new captain is yet to be appointed but fast bowler Pat Cummins is widely tipped to get the nod.

SACA has been contacted for comment.
