Catholic Education will open a Nazareth Catholic Community campus at Kidman Park to cater exclusively for year 11 and 12 students.

The $50 million campus will be open in 2023 as the first purpose-built, stand-alone campus for Catholic education seniors and year 11 students.

The site will initially cater for 500 senior students and will expand to cater for up to 800 students, more than many entire schools.

“We are pleased to be strengthening our provision of Catholic schooling in the western suburbs,” said Catholic Schools commission chair Professor Denis Ralph.

“The expansion will continue to support the unprecedented enrolment demand for a Catholic education.

“We are also mindful of the high demand for primary school places in the western suburbs, and at Nazareth in particular, and work is currently under way to address this situation.”

Enrolments in SA Catholic schools grew by 1605 students or 3.5 per cent this year, with more expected to join in July as part of the mid-year intake of reception students.

Nazareth Community College – a reception to year 12 college – already has campuses at Findon and Flinders Park.

Nazareth is SA’s largest Catholic school, with 2045 students.

Prof Ralph said as well as increasing enrolments, specialist facilities at the campus would ensure senior students had access to the latest technology and learning environments.

“The campus will include learning spaces for engineering and STEM, food and technology and music, as well as areas for student collaboration and self-directed study,’’ he said.

“There will also be a performing arts space and double court gymnasium.”

Principal Andrew Baker said the college would have a record number of year 7 students in 2022.

“This expansion allows us to continue to reimagine how we deliver curriculum and create community in a modern and ever-changing context.

“As always, we are committed to working closely with students, families, staff and our community to deliver excellence in teaching and learning through the delivery of contemporary and innovative education,” he said.

Catholic Education SA opened a new campus of Xavier College in Two Wells earlier this year, and will open a new Catholic secondary college, St Francis of Assisi, in the Riverland in 2022.

A spokeswoman said parents who will have children in year 11 from 2023 should inquire now for entry when the new campus opens.

Nazareth is currently taking enrolments for reception from 2024 and beyond, and year 7 2022 and onwards.
