A former temporary relief teacher at a Hills school has been charged with indecently assaulting a child.
In a letter obtained by The Advertiser, Belair Primary School principal Rob Houston wrote to parents on Tuesday advising them a former temporary teacher at the school had been charged.
Mr Houston said the teacher was directed away from the workplace and had not worked in department schools since November last year.
“Police have advised the Department for Education that they do not have any objections to the department informing the school community and this is why I am writing to you today,” he said.
“The former temporary teacher/temporary relief teacher has been summonsed to appear in court on September 8, 2022, and cannot be named until after they have appeared in court.
“I will keep you informed of the progress of the prosecution and provide you with more information when it becomes available.”
Mr Houston asked parents to contact him if they had any concerns.
“If you have any concerns about the safety and welfare of your child, please contact me directly at the school,” he said.
“I understand this is distressing information.”
