Australian steakhouse The Meat & Wine Co, currently in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, is heading to Adelaide, taking up residency in the former Elders building on Currie St in the CBD later this year.

Founder Bradley Michael is South African, so dishes dishes such as the boerewors sausage, techniques including the South African braai barbecue and the space and service itself will show what national operations manager Troy Mattingly calls “Afro-centric” flair.

“We feel we have a solid brand that can offer the SA community new dining experiences,” Troy says.

“When looking for sites for The Meat & Wine Co, we aim to open in either a historic and heritage-listed building or iconic location. The Elder building, being a heritage building, resonated with us.”

The menu “celebrates premium cut steaks with perfectly matched wine”, says food operations manager Thomas Godfrey.

“Currently, we offer grass- and grain-fed meats and shorthorn, and now we’re expanding on this by elevating our dry-ageing program,” he says.

“What’s exciting about introducing The Meat & Wine Co to the Adelaide community is sharing the dry-aging program that we have in-house and our introduction of our proprietary method of coating these select cuts of meat to slow the dry-aging process.”

“But we’re not just a steakhouse that offers meat, we cater for everyone – this includes a variety of vegetarian dishes.’

The restaurant is part of a $31 million project to transform Elder House into a retail, hospitality, medical and office space.

An arcade will link the building’s Currie St entrance with the Anster St laneway at its rear.

The Meat & Wine Co is owned by Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, and the chain was established in 2000.
