MasterChef starLaura Sharrad has confirmed plans to open a second Adelaide restaurant as Ten’s cooking competition enters its final week.

One of four contestants left on the show, Sharrad currently runs Italian eatery Nido in Hyde Park with husband, fellow chef Max Sharrad.

The 24-year old said there will be an “expansion of the Nido brand” but won’t release more details until after the MasterChef finale next Monday.

“It’s very very exciting, I guess it’s baby number two before an actual baby comes along,” said Sharrad.

“Nido is going so, so well, we couldn’t be happier. We are so booked out, it’s ridiculous and it’s amazing.

“It’s one of those things that if the opportunity did arise, we’d definitely want to do it again and do something similar but a little bit different... to kind of make it a little bit more niche.”

The 2014 MasterChef runner-up wouldn’t elaborate on rumours their new venture would be located on Leigh Street, in the old Rigoni’s restaurant.

Sharrad, fellow South Australian Callum Hann, Emelia Jackson and Reynold Poernomo remain in the running for this year’s MasterChef crown, with the winner to take home $250,000.

Sharrad and husband Max – who was named 2018 Australian Young Chef of the Year – opened pasta-focused Nido on King William Rd in April last year about six months after they tied the knot in the Barossa Valley.

She admitted it’s been a “testing time” for the couple after they spent 3.5 months apart earlier this year while she was filming MasterChef in Melbourne.

“We’ve never done long distance but it was one of those things... everyone was going through the same tough situation,” Sharrad said.

“You have to make these sacrifices, it’s normally a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’ve been lucky enough to do it twice.”

Second favourite for the MasterChef title behind Jackson, Sharrad said she was feeling confident ahead of a challenging final week.

“I had a clear goal in mind – that was to be at the very end. I came back because I knew that I had a good shot at winning it and I could do it if I tried hard enough,” she said.

“So to reach finals week, you get this far and you pretty much feel like you’ve won already. It’s such an amazing achievement.”
