Gluttony takes over the Masonic Lodge and creates The Green Room bar

The elegant, timber panelled surrounds of the Masonic Lodge in North Tce have been taken over by Gluttony during the Fringe and will host a very different sort of “club”.

The elegant, timber panelled surrounds of the basement in the Masonic Lodge in North Tce have been taken over by Gluttony during the Fringe to create a very different sort
of “club”.

While three spaces, including the 200-seat Phoenix, will host a variety of acts, “The Green Room” is a small bar that promises to mix old-school grandeur with a quirky, subversive edge.

The focus will be on cocktails.Davis Richardson(formerly of Chihuahua in Peel St) has taken a break from his job in London (he arrived yesterday) to oversee the operations behind an impressive bar.

“My brief is to create a banging list of classic twist cocktails,” he says.

Designer Elly Wrightsays the experience starts with finding a small staircase on North Tce that leads down to the basement space.

“The Green Room has a lot of heritage features and we are using that original aesthetic in our design,” she says. “But it will have the quirky, eclectic nature that Gluttony is known for with a vintage Victoriana vibe.

“There will be a mix of couches and armchairs, and low marble tables, pressed tin and candle lights. It won’t feel over-the-top opulent but we want to create a cosy underground bar that will feel a little different for a pre-show drink.

“There is also a piano down there and you never know your luck – an artist might want to have a tinkle on the keys.”
