No new COVID-19 cases in SA, for two days running

SA has recorded zero new COVID cases for the second day in a row, with more than 4200 tests carried out on Sunday.

SA resident quarantine breach triggers testing blitz

SA has recorded no new COVID-19 cases for the second-straight day since the Parafield cluster was first revealed on November 15.

The Parafield cluster remains at 33 cases and authorities are urging anyone who went to the hot spots, listed below, to get tested.

Some 4,234 COVID tests were carried out on Sunday, and that number is expected to be higher on Tuesday.

The Thebarton Community Centre pop-up testing clinic also will continue until Friday.

Restrictions also are on track to be lifted from Tuesday, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said.

And, as previously reported, masks will be mandatory for people in allied health and residential care from tomorrow, December 1.

SA remains on high alert after an infectious patient went on a shopping spree the day the three-day lockdown was lifted.

But in an astonishing turn of events, authorities said he had not done anything wrong because he was never formally asked to quarantine.

The man, in his 30s, was a contact of another English-language student at Flinders Uni’s English language learning institute, which is now one of four high-risk locations.

The announcements were made during the daily COVID update, fronted by SA Premier Steven Marshall, deputy chief public health officer Dr Emily Kirkpatrick, Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and Health Minister Stephen Wade.

It was widely reported that the man, whose shopping trip sparked an urgent call for hundreds to get tested, breached his quarantine after a “misunderstanding” about his test results.

Today, Dr Kirkpatrick said the man was never formally told to quarantine. He was a casual contact and had been asked to take a test and then isolate while awaiting results. His first test was negative but his second test, taken 11 days later, was positive.

Chief public health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier was on Sunday unable to guarantee the state would still see a range of restrictions lifted, saying she needed to see the testing rate lifted.

The warning to get tested if you’ve visited the listed sites during the specified times has seen queues form but not to the degree since the cluster was first announced on November 15.

Between 12.15pm and 3.30pm on the day of the breach, the man visited Big W Brickworks, at Torrensville, followed by Foodland at Norwood, Kmart at Kurralta Park, On the Run at Hilton, Anaconda, Mile End, Guzman y Gomez, Glandore, and Boost Juice, Glenelg.

SA Health has put the locations into two lists – one where the man spent 10 minutes or less, and those where he stayed longer.

People who shopped at the same time as the man have been urged to get tested immediately and to isolate themselves until they return a negative result.

See the list above for specific times and dates.

If they were at the places he briefly visited, they do not need to isolate but have been advised to get tested if symptoms occur.

Anyone who was at Flinders Uni’s Sturt Campus between November 13 and November 28 should also get tested immediately and quarantine until you receive a negative result.

Pop-up testing stations were established on Sunday afternoon at the Brickworks site and at Kurralta Park.
