A crowd of Adelaide protesters has railed against mandatory Covid-19 vaccinations and ongoing pandemic restrictions.
More than 1000 people rallied outside the Entertainment Centre at Hindmarsh this afternoon for the “freedom” rally protesting Covid vaccine mandates and restrictions.
The crowd gathered in the plaza between the Entertainment Centre and the 7NEWS Adelaide studios off Port Rd. The media organisation was placed into lockdown during the protest.
Protesters, including families and children, held placards bearing slogans including ‘My body, my choice’, ‘liberty or death’, flags in support of former US president Donald Trump and anti-vaccination signs.
Speakers criticised SA’s chief public health officer, Professor Nicola Spurrier, over her decisions and advice on restrictions, sparking boos from the crowd.
The crowd then marched north from Adam St along Port Rd to Chief St before returning to the Entertainment Centre. Police warned motorists of delays.
Last week, thousands of people gathered in Rundle Park for a similar rally, with Senator Alex Antic addressing the crowd and vowing to take the crowd’s message to Canberra.
Senator Antic has threatened to withhold his votes on all government motions and bills until more “protections” are put in place for people subject to mandatory vaccinations in their workplace.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended Senator Antic’s right to raise “issues that are very important to him” – even if it meant holding the government’s agenda to ransom.
“In the Liberal Party, we encourage our members to be themselves,” he said.
