Super walk-in weekend: Would you like a snag with your jab? No exciting results on Saturday

Big queues formed at jab clinics for the “carnival-style” vaccination event and sausage sizzle on the weekend, but the turnout was not reflected in the vax numbers.

World's most locked down population 'finally unshackled'

Lines were formed at multiple vaccination clinic on Saturday as they took part in a ‘super walk-in weekend’ – but the queues were not reflected in the vaccination numbers.

Figures show 14,214 people were vaccinated on Saturday, up from 11,678 the previous Saturday but well below the record - on Wednesday, October 6 - where 20,420 South Australians got jabbed.

The numbers from Sunday have not been released yet, but less significant lines were reported at vaccination clinics compared to Saturday.

One new case was also reported on Sunday - a male teen in a medi-hotel.

A number of clinics had reported a drop in appointment numbers to Adelaide’s Primary Health Network (PHN) in recent weeks, and it was hoped the weekend’s event would attract people to roll up their sleeves.

South Australians were offered a sausage sizzle while getting their Covid vaccine at selected clinics this weekend and on Sunday the lines at the Enfield Community Centre flowed out onto the street and around the building.

Boasting as a “fun” way to get vaccinated last week, Health Minister Stephen Wade said about 15 regional and metropolitan clinics were taking part in the “festive” event on October 23 and 24.

“During our super walk-in weekend, COVID-19 Pfizer clinics – some of which usually require a booking – will throw open their doors so people can simply walk in, get their jab and have some fun,” Mr Wade said.

Meanwhile, South Australian men have stormed ahead of women in the race to be vaccinated against Covid-19, figures show.

New federal data supplied by SA Health shows almost 52,000 more males than females have been fully vaccinated since the Covid immunisation rollout launched in February.

Victoria recorded 1935 new locally acquired Covid-19 infections and 11 more deaths on Sunday.
