The state has experienced a spike in Covid cases as the cooler weather starts to hit.

There was 4012 new cases of Covid reported this week, compared with 3256 in the previous week.

Nine Covid deaths were notified to SA Health in the past week, of people aged between their 60s to 90s.

As of 11.59pm on May 25, there were 177 people with Covid in hospital, including five people in ICU and one ventilated.

In the past week, 11,490 people took a PCR test, compared with 9970 people in the previous week.

SA Health said the jump in new Covid cases was in line with modelling that showed an increase as the weather turned cooler last week.

“As we approach winter and colder weather, it is natural for people to spend more time indoors and this is when respiratory viruses like Covid-19 and influenza spread more easily,” a spokesman said.
