SA’s Covid Christmas rules make gatherings ‘essential activities’
SA Health has delivered a welcome Christmas present for those living under South Australia’s post-isolation Covid restrictions – as well as some special festive rules.

Christmas family gatherings have been deemed “essential activities” by SA Health, meaning anyone still living with restrictions after their seven days isolation can attend events.
Current rules state anyone who is vaccinated and visited a close contact exposure sites, or is considered a close contact of a positive case, must undertake seven days home quarantine and get tested on days one, six and 13.

In the week following their isolation, they are required to follow other restrictions, including avoiding “non essential activities”.
“If you are a vaccinated close contact who has completed their seven days of quarantine after visiting an exposure site, you can still attend Christmas festivities however there are some important things to remember for the following seven days,” an SA Health spokeswoman said.
Guests will have to wear a mask to Christmas activities, ensure they are social distancing, limiting contact with older people, anyone who is pregnant or who has a chronic disease.
“While we know that having to quarantine or keep your distance at this time of year can be hard for people and their families, please know if you do need to quarantine, you are helping to protect South Australians by stopping the spread of Covid-19,” the spokeswoman said.

An unvaccinated person who visited a close contact exposure site, or is considered a close contact of a positive case from now until Christmas must be in quarantine for 14 days.
