As the Modbury Covid-19 cluster grows, a heat map has returned that shows where those with active cases live in SA.
The heat map, which first introduced during the state’s first wave of coronavirus last March and April, plots the active cases based on the council area in which the patient resides, not where they caught the virus.
The map plots the cases based on the council area in which the patient normally lives, unless they are a returned overseas traveller in a medi-hotel, in which case they are listed in the CBD.
The majority of cases are listed in the CBD, which includes those who have returned positive tests in medi-hotels after arriving from overseas.
All people with Covid-19 in SA stay in Tom’s Court, the state’s dedicated quarantine facility.
The Modbury cluster has caught up people who live in the Tea Tree Gully, Salisbury, Playford, Barossa, Burnside, Holdfast Bay and Onkaparinga council areas.
The map, which is compiled using SA Health data and is updated daily, also shows the total number of Covid-19 cases in each council area dating back to the start of the pandemic last year.
The council area with the most cases on that measurement, excluding Adelaide where all returning travellers with positive cases have been counted, is Onkaparinga Council. This is followed by Mitcham, Charles Sturt, Marion and Salisbury.
An SA Health spokeswoman said it was valuable data for the public.
“The data highlights how far Covid-19 has spread throughout the state, and underlines the essential role that every South Australian has to stop the spread, monitor their symptoms, and keep a close eye on the SA Health website and social media for the most up-to-date information,” she said.
