Four women dead from Covid and more than 3900 new cases

Four women have died and more than 3900 new cases of Covid have been reported, as that state’s hospitals treat 250 people with the virus.

Four South Australians have been killed by Covid-19 as the daily diagnosis numbers dropped from 3924 on Friday to 3907 on Saturday.

The four women were all over 70 and an SA Health spokeswoman said; “two women in their 80s, one in her 70s, and one in her 90s, who tested positive for Covid-19, have passed away”.

The spokeswoman said there are 250 people with Covid-19 in hospital, including 15 people in ICU, with two people on a ventilator.

Of those hospitalised, 188 people are fully vaccinated, 54 people are either unvaccinated or

partially vaccinated, and eight have an unknown vaccination status.

There are currently 24,837 active cases in South Australia.

FRIDAY, APRIL 29

Unvaccinated people no longer have to quarantine for a fortnight when they arrive in South Australia, under the latest easing of restrictions announced on Friday evening.

SAPOL announced that from 12.01am on Sunday morning, unvaccinated people arriving in SA have to undertake a RAT test and quarantine until it is taken, and monitor for symptoms.

Should the RAT test prove positive, they must take a PCR test.

Close contacts of Covid cases, from interstate or overseas, can also enter SA. Previously, they were not permitted to enter if they had been in contact with someone who had Covid up to seven days before arrival.

Meanwhile, there were 3924 new cases of Covid reported in SA on Friday, bringing the number of active cases to 24,621.

SA Health confirmed three people have died – one woman in her 80s, one man in his 50s, and one man in his 80s.

There are now 222 people with Covid in hospital, including 11 people in ICU, and one person requiring a ventilator.

Of those hospitalised, 162 people are fully vaccinated, 53 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and seven have an unknown vaccination status.

THURSDAY, APRIL 28

South Australian Opposition Leader David Spiers has tested positive for Covid-19.

The newly elected Liberal Party leader confirmed he had contracted the virus, in a statement released on Thursday.

“After developing minor Covid-19 symptoms I did a rapid antigen test which returned a positive test this afternoon,” he said.

“I am in the process of communicating with everyone who I have met with over the past two days and encouraging them to get tested where appropriate.

“I will continue to work from home as my new Liberal leadership team starts to develop a positive alternative vision for the future of South Australia.”

Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that four more elderly South Australians who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, amid 3733 new cases reported in the state Thursday.

There are currently 25,246 active cases in SA, a dip on the previous day due to a data reconfiguration.

SA Health confirmed two women in their 90s, one man in his 70s, and one man in his 80s, had died, bringing the total deaths to 339.

There are 240 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 11 people in ICU, and one person requiring a ventilator.

Of those hospitalised, 181 people are fully vaccinated, 53 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and six have an unknown vaccination status.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27

There has been a large jump in cases today with 4,856 positive tests in the past 24 hours – a 1393 jump in cases.

Testing rates are also on the rise.

Yesterday, 11,184 people received a PCR test in SA, which is a 56.6 per cent increase on the previous 24 hours.

But is some good news, hospitalisations are down slightly.

There are seven fewer people in hospital today – 247 including ten people in ICU, with no one on a ventilator.

There are 26,486 active cases in South Australia.

SA Health also said three more South Australians – a woman in her 50s and a woman in her 80s, and one woman in her 90s – have died with Covid.

Currently 93.4 per cent of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their second dose of the vaccine. Boosters have been administered to 71.6 per cent of eligible South

Australians.

TUESDAY, APRIL 26

There have been 3463 new cases of Covid reported in South Australia today and currently 26,944 active cases.

Seven people who tested positive for Covid, have died – one woman in her 70s, one woman in her 80s, two women in their 90s, one man in his 70s and two men in their 80s.

There are 254 people with Covid in hospital, including 10 people in ICU, with one person requiring a ventilator.

MONDAY, APRIL 25

Another six infectious South Australians have died amid more unpredictable daily case numbers and hospital admissions.

SA Health on Monday said a man in his 70s, four patients in their 80s – two each of men and women – and a woman in her 90s, had died in the past 24 hours.

Figures show nine hospital patients were discharged in the past day with 247 cases needing medical attention. Sunday’s rate of 256 was the highest since February 1.

There were 3175 infections on Monday, which was 359 more than Sunday’s total of 2816. But Saturday’s total was 3457.

In the past fortnight, SA Health has recorded fluctuating cases of 2675 to 5400 infections a day.

Testing rates have plummeted over the Anzac Day long weekend from almost 13,000 last week to 74,71 on Sunday.

SUNDAY, APRIL 24

There are 256 people in hospital in South Australia with Covid including 11 in ICU and two on ventilators this Sunday, April 24.

Five people with Covid – a man in his 70s, two men in their 80s, a man in his 90s and a woman in her 70s – have passed away.

There have been 2,816 new cases bringing the total number of active cases to 29,045.

Of those hospitalised, 177 people are fully vaccinated, 68 people are either unvaccinated or

partially vaccinated, and 11 have an unknown vaccination status.

Of the new cases, 93 per cent are the BA. 2 variant.

On Saturday, 8,913 people got a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 23 per cent decrease on the previous 24 hours.

Of the test results returned, there were 1,893 positive PCR tests, while 923 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Meanwhile, SA will drop seven-day isolation for close contacts of Covid patients within days – as long as they follow strict rules.

SATURDAY, APRIL 23

Another four Covid-19 infectious people have died amid a sharp fall in the state’s daily infections rates.

SA Health on Saturday reported two men, in their 70s and 80s, and two women in their 60s and 90s, died in past 24 hours.

The deaths, taking total fatalities to 314 in SA, emerged as daily case numbers plummeted by more than 1000 along with another fall in hospital admissions.

There were 3457 infections reported on Saturday compared to 4500 on Friday when a decision to scrap contact rules occurred.

A further nine patients were discharged from hospital meaning there were 237 cases receiving specialised medical help.

An extra two patients were admitted to intensive care, bringing the total number of ICU cases to 12. Of those, one patient is on a ventilator in an induced coma.

In the past week, SA Health has recorded fluctuating cases of about 2675 to 5400 a day.

Modelling had predicted a peak of between 5500 and 7000 daily cases.
