How to download your vaccination passport – and all the new rules and apps as SA opens borders

You can now get proof of your Covid vaccination on your mySA GOV app – watch our video and do it in a few simple steps.

How the SA vaccination check-in app works

What paperwork is needed to enter SA from Tuesday?

The new EntryCheck SA website at entrycheck.sa.gov.au went live last Friday evening. People using it will first need to have a mySA GOV account, or create one. Then they fill out the online form asking for personal details, Medicare number and where the person has spent the majority of time over the past 14 days or if they have been overseas recently. It also asks for proof of vaccination status, available on the federal myGov or Express Plus Medicare apps. Overseas arrivals also need an international vaccination certificate. EntryCheck SA will replace both the SA Police Cross Border Travel Registration and SA Health Travel Exemption applications.

What app is needed?

When the form is completed the applicant will get an email advising of any restrictions required and if they need the new HealthCheck SA app used to check for symptoms, monitoring and information on tests required and quarantine as well as results of tests.

Where do I get the HealthCheck SA app?

If this app is required, the email and text message will include a link to get the app, on the day of arrival.

What if I’m leaving SA – but only briefly?

Vaccinated returning South Australian residents leaving the state for 72 hours or less are not required to test prior to arrival. Vaccination requirements apply to all people more than 12 years and 2 months of age.

What if I have not completed a full course of a Covid-19 vaccine?

You will be classified as an unvaccinated traveller.

What if I’m not vaccinated?

Unvaccinated people will need an exemption from SA Health to enter SA.

What are the different requirements depending on the risk level assessment from the EntryCheck SA form?

Very low — no entry conditions other than vaccination.

Low — Covid-19 test taken in 72 hours prior to arrival in SA, daily symptom check for 14 days after arrival using HealthCheck SA.

Moderate — Covid-19 test taken in 72 hours prior to arrival in SA, Covid-19 test within 24 hours of arrival in SA, quarantine until test taken, daily symptom check for 14 days after arrival using HealthCheck SA.

High and international — negative test result received in 72 hours prior to arrival in SA, quarantine for seven days using HealthCheck SA, test within 24 hours of arrival in SA and again on days six and 13, daily symptom check for 14 days after arrival using HealthCheck SA, no entry to high risk settings for 14 days after arrival, no entry to Covid Management Plan events for 14 days after arrival.

How can I prove my vaccination status to gain entry to venues that demand patrons be fully vaccinated?

From Tuesday the new Vax Check will be available on the mySA GOV app used to check in using QR codes. This will show a person’s vaccination status on their smartphone screen. Premier Steven Marshall said: “Vax check is when you use your QR code check in, you will also be able to demonstrate your vaccination status.”

What if I don’t have a smartphone?

The EntryCheck SA website can be used on a computer and SA Health is assigning staff to help people who have trouble with the internet. People can still sign into venues using paper, and they can bring a paper printout of their vaccination status from their doctor if required.

If you need technical assistance completing your EntryCheck SA application, contact the SA Covid-19 Information Line on 1800 253 787 (8am to 8pm, seven days).

I am a cross border community member, what entry conditions apply to me?

Cross border community members must apply through EntryCheck SA and will be granted a Cross Border Community approval. Once approved, you can enter South Australia without restriction if you have not left the cross border corridor in the past 14 days and are vaccinated. If a cross border community member leaves the cross border corridor on the New South Wales or Victoria side, you can still enter South Australia but must have a Covid-19 test within 24 hours of arriving in SA. The test will be valid for 7 days. The Cross Border Community approval contains detailed conditions of entry. If you have an existing approval from SA Police, this will continue to be managed using existing processes until the approval expires, provided you have completed a full course of vaccination. When your ongoing approval expires, you must reapply using EntryCheck SA.

What if I’m a South Aussie wanting to go interstate?

There are no restrictions on South Australians travelling to any states or the ACT apart from the requirement to register, but the NT from today will only allow in fully vaxxed people. From the NT Health website: “From 22 November 2021, only those people who are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 will be permitted to enter the Northern Territory. This does not apply to those people unable to be vaccinated, like children under 12 years. There will be exemptions for very limited essential personnel and some compassionate grounds.”
