Covid case numbers steady; no further deaths announced on Monday

New cases of Covid in South Australia have hit a plateau – there were 3121 cases announced on Monday, but no further deaths.

South Australia recorded another 3121 new cases of Covid on Monday, but no further deaths.

The new case numbers are down very slightly from 3725 announced on Sunday.

There are now 24,464 active cases in South Australia and 150 people in hospital. Nine people are in ICU and two are on a ventilator.

Of the 150 with Covid-19 who are in hospital, 97 are fully vaccinated, 50 are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and three have an unknown vaccination status.

The new case load is a drop from this week’s peak of 4474 new cases, reported last Thursday.

South Australia lifted its density limits for hospitality and other venues at midnight las Saturday, allowing full houses and dancing for the first time in two years.

Students competing in one of the state’s top junior sports events on Saturday were given exemptions from Covid-19 close contact rules.

SA Health ruled Head of the River rowers could race at West Lakes in its 100th year despite being household or community close contacts.

Schools were this week told they could seek competition exemptions from rules.

But some principals claimed it had preferential treatment over other sporting, or extra-curricular events.

Under state law, close contacts are banned from Covid management plan events with large crowds within 14 days of infection.

SA Health approved the event’s management plan on Tuesday.
