Just under 4000 new Covid cases in SA but no further deaths reported

There have been no further deaths reported, but 3796 new cases in South Australia and the number of people in hospital holds steady.

There have been 3796 new cases of Covid reported in South Australia, but no further deaths announced today.

SA Health said on Sunday that there were 231 people in hospital, including nine in ICU and one on a ventilator. Of those in hospital, 117 people had received three or more vaccine doses, 114 are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.

The state’s active case load is now 26,634.

And Omicron variant BA.2 continues to dominate. The latest genome sampling has found that 100 per cent of new cases were of that variant.

Saturday, May 14

South Australia’s Covid death toll has surpassed 400.

SA Health reported a further 3816 cases of Covid on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases to 25,672.

The five deaths in people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the state’s total to 401, were a man in his 50s, a man in his 70s, two men in their 80s, and a woman in her 80s.

Currently 217 people with Covid-19 are in hospital, including 11 people in intensive care.

On Friday, 10,987 people received a PCR test in South Australia.

SA Health reminds anyone with Covid-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, to seek testing as soon as possible.

Friday, May 13

Three people have died as Covid case numbers remain steady, with another 4616 new cases reported.

On Friday, SA Health said a woman in her 80s and two men in their 80s with Covid had died.

There are 229 people in hospital – a rise of 19 from Thursday – including 10 people in ICU.

Of those hospitalised, 112 people have received three or more doses of vaccine and 117 people are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.

There are now 24,553 active cases in SA.

Thursday May 12

SA Health has announced seven more deaths, and another 4696 new Covid cases have been reported.

On Thursday, SA Health said two women in their 80s, one in her 90s, two men in their 80s and two in their 90s have died with Covid.

There are 210 people in hospital with Covid, with seven in ICU and two of those on a ventilator.

Of those in hospital, 100 have received three or more doses of vaccine, 103 are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and seven have an unknown vaccination status.

There are now 23,183 active cases in South Australia.

Wednesday May 11

Eight more people have died in South Australia in the past 24 hours, the highest Covid death rate in almost five months. Cases of a new Omicron variant have also risen.

SA Health on Wednesday reported eight new deaths in the past 24 hours, which is the highest rate since 13 a record fatalities were recorded on January 27 this year. A total of 386 people in SA have died in the pandemic.

The state has also recorded 4299 new Covid cases.

SA Health said a man in his 60s, two men in their 70s, one woman in her 80s, a man and two women in their 90s and a woman over 100 have died with Covid.

There are 232 people in hospital with Covid, including seven in ICU. Of those in hospital, 115 (49 per cent) have received three or more doses of vaccine, 111 (48 per cent) are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and six people have an unknown vaccine status.

The new cases bring the state’s total active case load to 21,101 – which SA Health says has been readjusted.

Last week Prof Spurrier revealed special genome testing of Omicron’s genetic sequencing found BA. 4 and BA. 5 in the state for the first time in South African travellers.

New SA Health testing now shows four BA. 4 cases and another two of BA. 5 origin.

The Emergency Management Council, which Premier Peter Malinauskas chairs, will meet every fortnight instead of weekly. A decision on ­the scrapping of masks in schools is due at the next meeting.

TUESDAY, MAY 10

Three women have died with Covid and cases have surged in SA as numbers continue to fluctuate.

SA recorded 3683 new cases on Tuesday, about 700 more than yesterday. There are currently 21,620 active cases in South Australia.

Three women have with the virus have died – one in her 70s, one in her 80s, and one in her 90s.

The number of people in hospital with Covid has dropped from 228 to 222, with six people in ICU and one person ventilated.

Of those hospitalised, 117 people had received three or more vaccine doses, 101 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and four have an unknown vaccination status.

MONDAY, MAY 9

SA recorded 2984 new cases of Covid on Monday – a slight rise on yesterday -and no new Covid-related deaths.

There are currently 21,418 active cases in South Australia.

It comes as Governor Frances Adamson tests positive to Covid.

Ms Adamson received a positive test result for Covid on Sunday evening and has only mild symptoms so far.

A statement said she intended to fulfil her commitments virtually wherever possible over the period of her isolation.

An administrator will be appointed to fulfil such duties as required.

It comes as the Premier says rules around RAT tests for people waiting to enter Adelaide’s emergency departments will be changed after a 92-year-old woman was forced to wait more than two hours in the cold.

There are 228 people with Covid in hospital – 14 more than yesterday – and an extra six people in ICU, bringing that total to 10, with one person ventilated.

Of those hospitalised, 122 people had received three or more vaccine doses, 100 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and six have an unknown vaccination status.

Yesterday, 6610 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 14.4% decrease on the previous 24 hours.
