The lifting of coronavirus restrictions and reopening of regional travel has come just in time for the long weekend.
With South Australians itching to get out and about after more than two months in isolation, many of us are now starting to wonder where should we go and what should we do when we get there?
There are currently no restrictions on the distance you can travel within SA, but if you’ve only got a day or two to spare, we’ve put together this handy guide featuring dozens of memorable day trips all within 150km of Adelaide, as the crow flies.
From wineries to the River Murray, and everything in between, there’s a daytrip to suit all tastes and occasions.
With the state’s borders still restricted, the South Australian Tourism Commission and State Government have launched a new campaign, Welcome Back, encouraging people to reconnect with their favourite places or visit somewhere they never have before.
“The ‘Welcome Back’ campaign is all about getting behind our tourism regions and helping these local communities, businesses and families get back on their feet as quickly as possible,” Premier Steven Marshall said.
University of South Australia Tourism Professor Marianna Sigala said COVID-19 would change the way we travel, with shorter driving holidays high on the list.
“Post lockdown, we’re likely to see a revival of the driving holiday – the family road trip … the car packed to the brim with kids and bags – as well as caravans, motorhomes, and even cycling tourism may experience a new surge,” she said.
“People will also be travelling for shorter periods and in smaller groups, preferably with family and friends, as the proximity of loved ones creates a sense of reassurance and reduces perceived risks.”
