Latest Covid heatmap shows the spread of Omicron across Adelaide

SA’s number of active Covid cases has dropped significantly over the past week. See the spread of infections across the metro area and which regional areas are worst-affected.

What to do if your rapid Covid test is positive

The number of active Covid cases across metropolitan Adelaide has dropped by 16,000 in the past week, as updated heatmap data shows the areas with the most cases.

A week ago, eight council areas in or surrounding Adelaide had one active Covid-19 case for fewer than every 25 residents – but now metro local government areas are averaging one case between every 30-70 residents.

Latest SA Health data released on Thursday, January 20, shows Adelaide City Council has one active case for every eight residents, but that number is significantly skewed by people relocated to medi-hotels.

Concentrations are highest in the northern suburbs, where Salisbury has 4514 active cases or one in every 31 residents based on population data from the 2016 Census. Playford has 2326 cases (one in 38) and Port Adelaide Enfield 3273 (one in 37).

In the city’s south, Onkaparinga has 2653 (one in 63) and Marion 1805 (one in 49).

As of Thursday, January 22, the total number of active cases in the 20 councils covering Adelaide and surrounding areas like the Hills and Gawler is 30,623.

There are 32,366 cases across the entire state and SA has recorded more than 77,000 cases since the pandemic began.

Burnside, Mount Barker and Adelaide Hills councils have the lowest concentration of cases in the metro area, at one case for every 72, 71 and 70 residents respectively.

The regional councils with more than 200 active cases are Mount Gambier 412, Murray Bridge 358, Barossa 251, Alexandrina 246, Naracoorte and Lucindale 243, Tatiara 223.

There are 13 regional councils with case numbers in triple figures, down from 20 a week ago.

On Wednesday, there were 3482 new cases and three more deaths of patients with Covid.

Premier Steven Marshall said he was confident the Covid outbreak has peaked, but there are fears the return to school in February will trigger a new wave of infections.
