Fashion-conscience dress in their best to walk their dogs

Just because we are in lockdown it doesn’t mean we can’t dress up in our finest. Just ask these dog lovers.

It’s the fashionista movement that’s giving isolation life a dose of much-needed glamour.

Locked-down dog owners are frocking up in their finest gowns and formal outfits to walk their pooches under the new “iso challenge” known as #gownsandhounds.

The daily event is the brainchild of Sydney property expert Amanda Gould, who sees it as a fun way for people to connect during the pandemic and get spruced up at the same time.

She sees it as an opportunity for dog lovers to have some fun and get dressed up in beautiful clothes that would otherwise be left unworn and hanging in their wardrobes during the coronavirus lockdown.

“When I started this, it was the beginning of lockdown and a lot of depressing news. Many people were feeling very isolated,” she said.

“I usually attend a number of events on a monthly basis, but these won’t be running due to the pandemic.

“I thought it’d be a shame to have all the gowns under lockdown too.”

“My favourite dress I’ve walked Billie in was a stunning red couture gown from Mariam Seddiq,” she said.

“I always feel very glam wearing it.”

The movement has attracted fashion fans from across Australia and the US.

“We’ve had people in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and a bunch of women in North Carolina join in so far,” she said.

“They’re actually doing an amazing job and sing Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, while gowned up and walking their hounds.”

Dog owners can join in by dressing up and sharing their images on the Instagram hashtag #gownsandhounds
