Greenacres Football Club was fined $5060 on Saturday night for breaching COVID-19 directions, reportedly involving strippers.

The club said the venue was hired by a third party for a private function on Saturday night when police arrived.

Police say the club could not provide a Covid Safe Plan, which is a requirement when any type of entertaining, adult or otherwise, is offered at a public venue.

It was also reported people were drinking while standing up in the venue, and not maintaining social distancing.

They were issued an on the spot fine of $5060, and the Licencing Enforcement Branch will conduct further investigations into potential breaches of the Liquor Licensing Act. The matter is to be referred to the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner.

A spokesperson from the club said they accept responsibility for the fine.

“Yesterday (Saturday), our clubrooms were hired by a third party for a private function,” the spokesperson said.

“Whilst for the most part the COVID guidelines were adhered to, it is regrettable that indiscretions to the guidelines have occurred. Ultimately it is our responsibility, and one we accept.”

Adelaide Footy League chief executive officer John Kernahan said all league members have been forewarned that the licence enforcement branch of police does not have any appetite to tolerate breaches of COVID-19 regulations.

“I don’t know how the breach came to be reported, though it serves as an excellent example that there are eyes everywhere,” Mr Kernahan said.

“We will continue to forewarn our clubs of their responsibilities and the current risks and penalties for breaching COVID-19 compliance.”

It comes a week after Glenelg Football Club was also fined $5060 after social media footage emerged of people drinking while dancing.

Glenelg Football Club president Peter Carey said the team was holding a private function with players and partners after a win against West Adelaide.
