Covid cases for the week beginning Monday, April 18, 2022

The number of new Covid cases in SA has fallen dramatically today compared with Friday’s total, but four more people have died from the virus.

Another four Covid-19 infectious people have died amid a sharp fall in the state’s daily infections rates.

SA Health on Saturday reported two men, in their 70s and 80s, and two women in their 60s and 90s, died in past 24 hours.

The deaths, taking total fatalities to 314 in SA, emerged as daily case numbers plummeted by more than 1000 along with another fall in hospital admissions.

There were 3457 infections reported on Saturday compared to 4500 on Friday when a decision to scrap contact rules occured.

A further nine patients were discharged from hospital meaning there were 237 cases receiving specialised medical help.

An extra two patients were admitted to intensive care, bringing the total number of ICU cases to 12. Of those, one patient is on a ventilator in an induced coma.

In the past week, SA Health has recorded fluctuating cases of about 2675 to 5400 a day.

Modelling had predicted a peak of between 5500 and 7000 daily cases.

FRIDAY, APRILL 22

South Australia’s wildly fluctuating daily Covid-19 infections and hospital admissions have continued after a rise in new cases, hospitalisations and deaths.

SA Health on Friday reported 4500 new cases, which was almost 500 more on Thursday’s total.

There have also been five more patients admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 246 cases needing medical attention.

This is below 252 cases recorded earlier this week, which was the highest rate since February 1.

While ICU cases is falling to 11 patients in intensive care, there have been four more deaths, three men in their 70s and a man in his 80s.

In the past week, SA Health has recorded fluctuating cases of about 2675 to 5400 a day.

Modelling had predicted a peak of between 5,500 and 7,000 daily cases.

Premier Peter Malinauskas has warned of a rise in cases later this week.

Thursday, April 21

SA recorded 4079 cases of Covid on Thursday and three deaths including a woman in her 90s, a man in his 60s and another man in his 90s.

There are now 241 people with Covid in hospital, including 11 people in ICU – three requiring a ventilator.

The figures were slightly down on yesterday’s.

Of those hospitalised, 165 people are fully vaccinated, 75 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and one has an unknown vaccination status. There are currently 28,276 active cases in South Australia.

Wednesday, April 21

SA Health on Wednesday reported 4,256 infections, which was 427 extra from Tuesday’s total after more than 2000 people had Covid tests.

There are 252 hospital patients after seven more people were admitted in the past 24 hours.

Another three patients have been admitted to intensive care, bringing the total number of ICU cases to 14. Of those, two patients are on a ventilator in an induced coma. It is the highest number of daily hospital admissions since February 1.

Two men, in their 60s and 80s, have died in the past day, SA Health said.

Data released on Tuesday showed almost a fifth of 245 Covid hospital patients – or 46 cases – had been admitted due to other medical issues.

In the past week, SA Health has recorded fluctuating cases of about 2675 to 5400 a day.

Modelling had predicted a peak of between 5,500 and 7,000 daily cases.

Premier Peter Malinauskas has warned of a rise in cases later this week.

“Obviously we had a few restrictions released at the end of last week, namely in the form of masks, so we want to keep an active eye on that,” he said.

“So far the case numbers seem to be in line with expectations.

“But I’m very conscious of the fact that testing numbers are down over the Easter weekend, which was foreseeable and we’re paying very close attention to what occurs in that area over the course of the remainder of the week.

“We would expect to pay a bit of attention to the case numbers on Wednesday and Thursday and I would anticipate that they’re likely to rise on the back of the weekend.

“So far things are operating within the scope of the modelling that we’ve released publicly.”

Tuesday, April 19

There have been 3829 new cases of Covid reported in South Australia on Tuesday – a slight increase from Monday’s figure of 3560 – and there are currently 29,079 active cases.

Sadly, SA Health can confirm one man and two women in their 80s, who tested positive for Covid, have passed away.

There are still 245 people with Covid in hospital, including 11 people in ICU, and two people are on a ventilator – up from just one on Monday.

Of those hospitalised, 163 people are fully vaccinated, 76 people are either unvaccinated or

partially vaccinated, and six have an unknown vaccination status.

Monday, April 18

South Australia recorded an increase in new coronavirus cases on Monday, with 3560 new infections and no deaths reported.

A total of 245 people are in hospital including 11 people in ICU, and one person is on a ventilator.

Of those hospitalised, 172 people are fully vaccinated, 72 people are either unvaccinated of partially vaccinated and one has an unknown vaccination status.

There were 9378 PCR tests taken in SA yesterday, which was a 21 per cent increase from Saturday’s figure of 7712, and there are currently 30,272 active cases in the state.
