- Stowaways sent back to Melbourne: Border to be tightened
South Australia has recorded its first new case of coronavirus in 17 days after an Adelaide woman, who had returned to Melbourne earlier this month from overseas, tested positive.
The woman undertook further checks after her initial COVID-19 test was inconclusive.
On Wednesday a SA Health spokeswoman said the initial test may have found an old infection.
She said SA Pathology had not had any false positive results. But as a precaution all positive results are retested.
Premier Steven Marshall confirmed the positive result today.
“We have one new case to report today … she undertook her two weeks of her mandatory supervised quarantine in Victoria where she returned two negative tests,” he said.
“It is a low positive, she is not contagious.”
SA deputy chief public health officer Dr Michael Cusack said the woman had done all the right things and close contacts around her had been tested.
He said the infection was in the recovery period.
“The remainder of her family have been tested and tested negative.”
“I think we can say with confidence that she was not infectious on her flight (into Adelaide last week)”.
Mr Marshall has also confirmed that four Victorian stowaways who escaped punishment in court yesterday had returned negative test results.
