An Adelaide 36ers basketball game due to take place at the Entertainment Centre on Tuesday night has been cancelled after a team member tested positive to Covid.
A statement released by the club said all game-day players and staff had been deemed close contacts, and their clash with the Perth Wildcats will be rescheduled.
Another home game, scheduled for January 2 against South-East Melbourne Phoenix, will also be postponed.
Chief executive Nic Barbato said the measure was disappointing but necessary, and thanked fans for their understanding.
“It’s extremely disappointing to have the games postponed, but we must follow the advice and guidelines of the state government, meaning those deemed close contacts will have to isolate,” he said.
“The health of our players, coaches, staff, corporate partners, members and fans is our number one priority.
“The focus now is to support our players and coaches during the isolation period and ensure their wellbeing.”
All 36ers players and staff have been double vaccinated, the club said. It is not known whether the infected person is a player, coach or other staff member.
Anyone who had a ticket to the either game will be contacted directly.
A NBL spokesperson said the health and safety of players, coaches, clubs, staff and funs was the league’s priority.
“The NBL will continue to follow the advice of governments and health authorities and further testing will be carried out on any individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts,” the spokesperson said.
