A tradesman is fighting for his life in hospital after the cherry picker he was standing on collapsed, plunging him four storeys onto a concrete driveway.
Emergency crews were called to an Allawah apartment block in Sydney‘s south around 12.30pm on Sunday following reports the machinery had crashed into the pavement.
NSW Ambulance Acting Inspector Andrew Bibby told The Sydney Morning Herald the man was painting eves on the roof when the cherry picker toppled.
The 32-year-old maintenance worker fell four storeys to the ground, making a loud bang that caught the attention of neighbours.
Trained lifesaver Andrew Collington heard the crash and rushed to the scene where he attended to the man while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
“He wasn’t conscious, but he was clearly trying to move a little,” Mr Collington told The Sydney Morning Herald.
The man was placed into an induced coma by paramedics and rushed to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
The scene has been cordoned off by police, who are investigating along with SafeWork NSW.
