Female leaders working in the state’s civil construction sector have dominated this year’s Civil Contractors Federation awards.
The majority of individual awards this year went to women, including McConnell Dowell project delivery manager Winnie Zhu, who was recognised as the next gen civil future leader.
Alexander Symonds business relationship manager Carly Zanini took out the women in civil category, while BMD Group safety advisor Tammy Cooper was recognised for her contribution to workplace health & safety.
Civil Contractors Federation SA chief executive Phil Sutherland said his organisation had recently commenced a campaign to attract more women into the industry, with the awards reflecting the greater level of diversity in the traditionally male-dominated sector.
“To have so many women achievers join our 2019 winner’s circle reflects the manner and maturity with which our members have embraced positive change, to ensure our civil construction workforce is a modern day jobs environment offering broad opportunities across
multi-disciplines,” he said.
“But all of our winners for 2019 have made an important and distinguished contribution to our sector, by ether currently excelling in their field of endeavour within the industry, or topping recent construction industry-related training courses.”
Other women to take out awards this year included Downer Group’s Danielle Micarone, who won the training co-ordinator of the year award, and CPB Contractors document control lead Nichole Fynnaart who was named the quiet achiever of the year.
Surveying consultancy Alexander Symonds was named employer of the year and CPB Contractors took out the pride in diversity and social inclusion award.
McMahon Services was represented in two categories, with Craig Bond named manager of the year and colleague Stuart Gigg named supervisor of the year
