West Beach Parks holiday park will join the Discovery Parks network following a deal between the two South Australian tourism operators.

As part of the agreement, management and operation of the state’s largest holiday park will remain the responsibility of the West Beach Trust (West Beach Parks) - a statutory authority that manages the holiday park and the broader West Beach Parks precinct which covers 135ha of beachfront land.

Discovery Parks will take over the branding, naming rights and sales and marketing for the holiday park once the agreement comes into effect on December 1.

It will take over from rival holiday park company Big4 following an expression of interest process undertaken by West Beach Parks and the recommendation of an independent evaluation panel.

West Beach Parks chief executive Kate Anderson said the process was undertaken to test the market and ensure that West Beach Parks had the most competitive and strategic brand partnership in place.

“West Beach Parks holiday park will have access to Discovery Parks’ strong loyalty members and will be marketed through the Discovery Parks and G’day (G’day Group) websites,” she said.

“The partnership will enable us to reach new markets from within South Australia and interstate through complementary marketing activities undertaken by West Beach Parks and Discovery Parks.

“We look forward to working closely with the Discovery Parks team to make this new partnership a success.”

Discovery Parks has more than 85 destinations around the country and is part of the G’day Group - the country’s largest regional accommodation provider with a network of more than 300 holiday parks.

Discovery Parks founder and chief executive Grant Wilckens said he was excited to have been awarded the brand licence for the West Beach holiday park, which accommodates up to 3000 guests across 338 caravan and tent sites, 132 self-catering cabins, six glamping ‘eco tents’ and an ‘ultra-luxe’ three-bedroom beach-house.

“West Beach Parks Holiday Park is one of the most exceptional holiday parks in the country and a flagship addition to our much-loved national network of Discovery Parks,” he said.

“This is an exciting partnership for South Australian tourism, and we look forward to working closely with the West Beach Trust to grow visitation to the state through this iconic property.”

West Beach Parks holiday park is the largest holiday park in South Australia, offering direct access to West Beach and nearby leisure and sport attractions.

On-site facilities include a heated lagoon-style swimming pool, kids’ zero depth water park, new $1.8m ‘Central Park’ play space, outdoor movie area with big screen, games room, billiards room and new licensed kiosk The Shack.

The agreement follows G’day Group’s recent deal to acquire the Wilpena Pound Resort at the Flinders Ranges.
