More than 8000 people are expected to attend this year’s annual three-day Sailing Club event on the foreshore of Victor Harbor as part of new year festivities.

South Australian talent, food and wine are at the heart of celebrations, joint organisers Alex Bastian and Sam Worrall-Thompson said.

Australian singer Tkay Maidza, who studied in South Australia, will kick off the event on December 29.

Plans for Day Two include a pet-friendly, family fun day with stacks of activities and entertainment for children of all ages while New Year’s Eve will wrap up with live music and fireworks. “Having grown up holidaying in Victor Harbor with the family, and my folks now calling it home, I have a bit of a soft spot for the iconic town and the South Coast,” Mr Bastian said.

“So we are pretty excited to showcase & support this amazing region. With expected crowds of over 8,000 for the 3 days, we’re encouraging people to stop by and support local vendors & amazing South Australian talent.

Stepney restaurant Fine & Fettle chef and owner Sam Worrall-Thompson said this year’s event would be “bigger and better” than ever on the food and drink front.

“We really wanted to give back to the community and support local. We’re using a range of local producers and suppliers, from Fleurieu cheese on Graze & Gather’s boards to the sparky who helps us set up,” he said. “We’re also donating $1 from every New Year’s Eve ticket sold to the local Victor Harbor RSL”.

“Plus, this year for the first time we’re opening up general restaurant bookings in our Upper Deck restaurant, offering fine dining with an ocean view”. The Sailing Club is located at the Soldiers Memorial Gardens, Victor Harbor, and more information is available at www.the-sailingclub.com.au
