A new partnership, worth more than $100 million, between the University of Adelaide and accommodation developer and operator Urbanest will support the needs of rising numbers of domestic and international students wishing to live in the city centre, by proving an extra 689 beds.
Urbanest chief executive officer Bub Nickel expects the new student community, to be based on North Terrace opposite the university, will raise the bar for living standards.
“The university is very focused on bringing the best the world has to offer to students in Adelaide and we feel fortunate to be a part of their plans,” he said.
The new building, on the site of the old Radio Adelaide broadcasting centre, will maximise affordability by offering multiple price points for students. It will have state of the art amenities including a fitness facility, mini theatre and several conference centres.
The University of Adelaide currently offers 590 beds of managed accommodation to its students including the Grote St village and Roseworthy residential college.
Adelaide builder Built Environs has begun work on-site and completion is expected in November next year in readiness for the 2018 academic year.
