A HANDFUL of expressions of interest have been received in relation to a contentious parcel of land at Gillman, according to the State Government.

No detail was given about who the five interested parties are or what their plans involve. The EOI period for the 150ha of industrial land closed last Thursday.

After a controversial deal with Adelaide Capital Partners fell through in November, Premier Jay Weatherill was accused by Opposition Leader Steve Marshall of devaluing the site by repeatedly calling it a “swamp”.

The State Government came under close scrutiny after it signed the ACP deal in late 2013 without putting the sale out to the open market.

An investigation by Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Bruce Lander concluded that the Government’s land sale agency, the Urban Renewal Authority — which predates Renewal SA — had “engaged in maladministration in public administration”, which led to “a substantial mismanagement of public resources”.

Mr Lander was critical of Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis’s actions throughout the process, including his use of profanities and his general demeanour, but he and the Premier were cleared of maladministration.

Four members of Renewal SA’s seven-member board resigned over the deal, after advising the Government to reject it.

The deal fell through when ACP failed to come good with its initial $45 million payment.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Stephen Mullighan has previously said that the EOI process would lead to significant developments for the site.
