A graphic burger ad has been banned

THE controversial magazine ad showing the contents of a burger in between a woman's bottom has been banned by the Advertising Standards Board after community uproar.

LOOK closely at the image above. The burger bun is, in fact, a woman's bum.

Originally this advertisement ran in the December issue of The Beast, a community magazine printed for Bondi residents and used to promote a new burger joint, Goodtime Burger. The slogan "the freshest fun between the buns", accompanied the graphic image.

The ad upset quite a few people when it first appeared in the magazine, and the Advertising Standards Board has finally made the decision to ban it.

Allegedly the ad was approved by the community magazine before it went to print, but was met with disgust by many customers...and would-be diners.

When the ad first ran, Goodtime spokeswoman Laura Brown said, "The brand itself is quite cheeky - [the advertisement] is fun, it's meant to raise awareness of the brand. We wanted to give people a laugh as well."

But it seems too many people took serious offence to the ad and the complaints flooded in.

The Board decided to pull the plug, saying: "Although the advertiser intended the image to be a humorous depiction, the close up image of the woman's bottom and the portrayal of her bottom as a burger likened the woman to a piece of meat or object for consumption and objectified women. The Board also considered that this depiction of a woman as a burger is exploitative of women and degrading."

Although Goodtime Burgers can't use the image again, it seems they haven't lost their sense of fun as seen on their Facebook page. And as long as the fun doesn't offend anybody, they'll keep having a "good time" while making good burgers.
