South Australian kombucha brand MOJO no where to be seen at major supermarket as local factory set to close after 12 years of production.
The drinks appear to be no longer be available at Coles and are going out of stock at Woolworths.
The trendsetting company, which was co-founded in SA by Anthony and Sarah Crabb in 2010, was acquired by Coca-Cola in 2018.
The global giant is said to be “streamlining” its line-up of beverages.
The closure announcement was made via MOJO’s social media accounts on November 9.
“Sadly we have made the difficult decision to close our kombucha factory,” the post read.
“This means that in the near future … our (products) will start to disappear from fridges and will no longer be available.”
A Coca-Cola spokesperson said the decision to cease production at the end of 2022 was made after a strategic review of Organic & Raw Trading Co, which produces and distributes MOJO kombucha.
They said the company was “prioritising fewer brands with the greatest potential for scale”.
From its Willunga production line, MOJO entered the niche health and wellbeing market in 2010, before gaining a steady following among local buyers and global celebrities.
MOJO pioneered kombucha’s place on the shelves of mainstream Australian stores and, in 2018, injected $1m into an upsized bottling line with ambitions of expanding into the Asian market.
It was acquired by Coca -Cola in September that year, joining the retail giant’s beverages portfolio of more than 165 products and 25 brands.
As of 2018, MOJO products were sold in about 4000 outlets nationwide and employed 61 staff.
In 2021, the brand underwent a major facelift, with a redesigned website and logo, and launched its newest ‘Superbooch’ product.
A Coca-Cola spokesperson said the company would be “supporting the Organic & Raw team” as the business winds down.
MOJO juice, which was not produced by Organic & Raw, will continue to be available.
