Adelaide developer and property investor Leyton Property has broken ground on a new $20m health facility at Mount Barker.

The Mount Barker Health Hub will become the new flagship Mount Barker clinic for Jones Radiology, which will provide expanded services in the region including specialised cardiac, oncology and musculoskeletal imaging, along with enhanced pain management services.

Other health providers including GPs, specialists and allied health providers are being sought for the remaining 500sq m of available space in the 1500sq m facility.

Leyton Property managing director Hamish Brown said demolition of the existing buildings on the busy Adelaide Rd site was under way, with the new medical centre due to open in the third quarter of next year.

“The Mount Barker Health Hub will be at the heart of allied healthcare in Mount Barker providing maximum visibility and convenience for patients and practitioners,” he said.

“We’re excited to commence construction of this project and look forward to delivering a much-needed asset for our tenant partners so they can provide the very best care for their patients and the Adelaide Hills community.”

The Mount Barker District Council initially rejected Leyton Property’s medical centre plans, which includes the demolition of a local heritage-listed home on the site, but reversed its decision in May following an appeal from the developer.

Jones Radiology currently provides services from three clinics at Mount Barker – at the Mt. Barker District Hospital, Summit Health, and another site on Druids Ave.

Chief executive Professor Susan O’Neill said the new facility would help to meet the growing demand for radiology services in the region.

“This development is about investing in the future of healthcare in the Hills,” Professor Susan O’Neill said.

“It reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality imaging, supporting our local team and ensuring patients have access to the very best care close to home.”

The Mount Barker Health Hub has been designed by Hahndorf’s Fore Design and is being built by construction company FDC.
