A home builder in Wayville has officially ceased trading days after entering voluntary administration – leaving all of its staff jobless.

Master Builders ‘complain about consultation’: Tony Burke

Employees at embattled Adelaide builder Felmeri Group have been made redundant as the company officially ceased trading on Thursday.

All 21 workers at the family-owned construction company were formally notified yesterday, less than a week after entering into voluntary administration.

The business’s headquarters, located in Wayville, was reportedly left abandoned with phone lines allegedly disconnected and no trace of any employees on the premises.

In a statement to 7NEWS, company director Frank Felmeri said it was a “difficult and sad situation for all parties involved”.

“We are working with the administrators to achieve the best result for all affected,” Mr Felmeri said.

About 40 customers have been left with partially completed homes, with another 60 homes yet to begin construction.

Customers are now able to lodge insurance claims in the hopes of being compensated for some of their financial losses.

Felmeri, which traded as Felmeri Homes and Felmbuilt Commercial, fell into administration last Friday following a string of complaints around claims of poor workmanship and lengthy delays that prompted an investigation by Consumer and Business Services.

The company initially received complaints from affected customers about their brand new homes, who claimed they experienced prolonged delays in construction.

“I haven’t slept a good night in nearly three years,” customer James Lattin told 7NEWS.

“I’m exhausted, I’m stressed, I’m depressed. We’re just tired and we just want our houses built and (to have) this over and done with.”

The company is now facing more than $4m in unpaid debts to their suppliers and trade creditors.

Administrator Leigh Prior from Agile Business Advisory had previously confirmed almost 150 unsecured creditors were owed close to $2m.

Secured creditor ANZ is owed almost $500,000, while related companies also have claims for more than $2m.

Affected creditors are expected to find out the full extent of the financial ramifications in a meeting scheduled for next week.
